Methods and systems for discovering whether a given connection to an InfiniBand port is a standard InfiniBand connection or a non-standard connection (e.g., indicating the presence of a proprietary device) are provided. The discovery may be performed by an end node, such that the end node interoperates with all standard InfiniBand components. Specific actions that are vendor unique, and potentially not compliant with the InfiniBand architecture, may not be done until after the discovery is complete and it has been verified that the noncompliant action will only be directed to entities know to be capable of processing them. These actions may include assuming the configuration responsibilities that would have been performed by the Subnet Manager in a standard InfiniBand network.

According to the preferred embodiments of the present invention, a method and an apparatus for efficiently and accurately processing incoming connection establishment requests is disclosed. The present invention allows the signaling provider of the network interface software to determine ownership of an incoming request by accessing client-provided information in the form of call filters. Upon receiving an incoming call establishment request, the network interface software matches the request to information previously provided by the clients of the network interface software. The network interface software can thus determine the correct recipient, negotiate parameters on the owner's behalf, establish a call connection, inform the client that the connection has been established, and inform the client of specific parameters relating to the incoming call.

Apparatus and method for telecommunication routing and parameter negotiation

The preferred embodiment of the present invention provides a method and apparatus for controlling the scroll rate of a scroll bar slider in a graphical user interface. The preferred embodiment uses a domain mechanism that divides large documents into multiple domains. The document is displayed in a viewing window with the slider moving the document from one of the current domain to the other end. Because the slider only moves within one domain, and not the whole document, the slider sensitivity is reduced such that it can be effectively used to scroll through documents. The document can be moved within the viewing window to other domains by activating one of a plurality of domain marks, where each domain mark represents a domain not currently scrollable with the slider. Thus, the entire document can be easily browsed while the scroll rate is maintained at an effective level. This provides a user with a high degree of control when viewing all sizes of documents.

Document interface mechanism and method for navigating through large

The invention relates to a wide area network implemented on a circuit-switched public data network. Terminals have access to a plurality of data channels and a control channel into the network using a balanced protocol. The invention provides a method for reducing connect time between the terminals over the data channels. To do this a conversation is established between a transaction program on the local terminal and a transaction program on the remote terminal. Responsive to generation of a frame for transmission by the transaction program on the local terminal to the transaction program on the remote terminal, a channel connection between the local terminal and a remote terminal including a data channel connecting each terminal into the wide area network is established if no channel connection already exists. Responsive to expiration of a predetermined period after last transmission or receipt of a frame and existence of the channel connection for a minimum connect period, the channel connection is disestablished without interrupting the conversation between the transaction programs. The predetermined period and the minimum connect period are optimized to minimize costs under a tariff structure for the circuit-switched public data network.
