Embodiments of the disclosure relate to a method of preparing a bundled cable. In the method, a plurality of subunits is wound around a central member in one or more layers of subunits to form the bundled cable. For a section of the central member, each layer of subunits has a pitch over which a subunit of the layer of subunits makes one revolution around the section of the central member and a length of the subunit required to make the one revolution. The subunits are configured to have a nominal helical length equal to the ratio of a nominal length to a nominal pitch. Further, in the method, a measurement of the bundled cable is monitored, and a winding rate of the plurality of subunits is adjusted based on the measurement in order to account for deviations from the nominal helical length.

An intermediate power supply unit for distributing lower voltage power to remote devices is disclosed. The intermediate power supply unit includes a higher voltage power input configured to receive power distributed by a power source and a power coupling circuit configured to couple the higher voltage power input to a plurality of power coupling outputs. If it is determined that a wire coupling the power source to the higher voltage power input is touched, the higher voltage power input is decoupled from the power coupling outputs. The intermediate power supply unit also includes a power converter circuit configured to convert voltage on higher voltage inputs to a lower voltage applied to one or more lower voltage outputs. The power converter circuit is also configured to distribute power from the one or more lower voltage outputs over a power conductor coupled to an assigned remote device.

Connector assemblies and methods are disclosed for providing sealing and strain-relief. In one embodiment, the connector assembly includes a cable assembly having an overmold portion, an inner housing, and a coupling body. The inner housing includes a sealing element for providing sealing from environmental elements and a crank for providing strain-relief for the connector assembly and inhibiting pulling forces on the cable assembly from being transmitted to the connector of the cable assembly.

Connector assemblies and methods for providing sealing and strain-relief

Fiber optic cable assemblies and fiber optic terminals supporting port mapping for series connected fiber optic terminals are disclosed. In one embodiment, a fiber optic cable assembly is provided. The fiber optic cable assembly includes a fiber optic cable having a plurality of optical fibers disposed therein between a first end and a second end of the fiber optic cable. The plurality of optical fibers on the first end of the fiber optic cable are provided according to a first mapping. The plurality of optical fibers on the second end of the fiber optic cable are provided according to a second mapping. In this regard, the fiber optic cable assembly provides port mapping of optical fibers to allow multiple fiber optic terminals having the same internal fiber mapping to be connected in series in any order, while providing the same connectivity to each of the terminals in the series.

A hybrid cable assembly includes a hybrid cable, tether tubes, and an overmold. The hybrid cable includes both electrical-conductor and fiber-optic elements. The tethers receive a subset of the elements from the hybrid cable at a transition location in the form of a chamber, and the overmold surrounds the transition location. The overmold is elongate, flexible, and has a low profile configured to pass through narrow ducts.

Cable assembly

A fiber optic network having a branch cable with a plurality of optical fibers optically coupled to a distribution cable, and first and second optical connection terminals connected in series is disclosed. The first optical connection terminal is adapted to receive a first segment of the branch cable. The first optical connection terminal is configured such that predetermined ones of a first plurality of ports comprise one or more of a first drop port and a first pass-through port. The first drop port is operable for optically coupling a first respective predetermined one of the plurality of optical fibers to a first drop cable. The first pass-through port is operable for optically coupling a second respective predetermined one of the plurality of optical fibers to a second segment of the branch cable extending externally from the first optical connection terminal. The second optical connection terminal is adapted to receive the second segment of the branch cable. The second optical connection terminal is configured such that a predetermined one of a second plurality of ports comprises a second drop port operable for optically coupling the second respective predetermined one of the plurality of optical fibers to a second drop cable.

Fiber optic network architecture having optical connection terminals in series arrangement

A fiber optic network device for optically coupling a fiber optic distribution cable with a fiber optic drop cables is disclosed. Disposed within the fiber optic network device is a plurality of optical fibers optically coupled to the distribution cable. A plurality of ports opens into the fiber optic network device. Predetermined ones of the plurality of ports are operable for optically coupling respective predetermined ones of the plurality of optical fibers each to at least one drop cable external to the fiber optic network device. At least one of the predetermined ones of the plurality of ports is a pass-through port operable for optically coupling at least one of the respective pre-determined ones of the plurality of optical fibers to the at least one drop cable through another fiber optic network device. A pass-through connector comprising a plurality of connection ports adapted for receiving in a predetermined alignment the respective pre-determined ones of the plurality of optical fibers may be seated within the pass-through port. The fiber optic network device may be an optical connection terminal and/or a distribution closure. The fiber optic network device may further include one or more splitters. The predetermined ones of a plurality of ports may be operable for optically coupling at least one of the respective predetermined ones of the plurality of optical fibers to a drop cable through one or more splitters.

Optical connection terminal having port mapping scheme

A fiber optic network device comprising an input port adapted to receive a multi-fiber cable having active optical fibers designated in a consecutive sequence is disclosed. A first plurality and a second plurality of optical fibers are disposed within the fiber optic network device. The first plurality of optical fibers aligns to a first section of the consecutive sequence and a second plurality of optical fibers aligns to a second section of the consecutive sequence. A plurality of drop ports in the fiber optic network device are adapted to optically couple ones of the first plurality of optical fibers to at least one drop cable. A pass-through port is adapted to optically couple the second plurality of optical fibers to a second fiber optic network device through a multi-fiber adapter in a central alignment at the pass-through port.

Port mapping in fiber optic network devices

A composite cable breakout assembly is disclosed. The assembly includes an enclosure for receiving a composite cable having a fiber optic cable with at least one optical fiber and an electrical power cable with at least one electrical conductor. The enclosure has at least one port providing passage to the exterior of the enclosure. The at least one optical fiber is terminated by a fiber optic connector and the at least one electrical conductor is terminated by an electrical connector. Alternatively, the at least one optical fiber and the at least one electrical conductor may be terminated by a composite optical/electrical connector. The fiber optic cable and the electrical power cable route to the at least one port enabling connection external to the enclosure for extension of optical signal and electrical power to components external to the enclosure.

Composite cable breakout assembly

Fiber optic terminals, systems, and methods for providing differentiated network services to subscribers of a fiber optic network are disclosed. In certain embodiments, fiber optic terminals and methods are disclosed for providing more than one network service to subscribers supported by the same fiber optic terminal. In one embodiment, a fiber optic terminal is provided comprising a first optical path connected to a first network-side optical fiber providing a first network service to a first subscriber-side optical fiber. The fiber optic terminal also comprises a second optical path connected to a second network-side optical fiber providing a second network service differentiated from the first network service to a second subscriber-side optical fiber. In this manner, differentiated network services can be provided to subscribers supported by the fiber optic terminal by configuring connections of the subscribers to either the first optical path or second optical path in the fiber optic terminal.

Fiber optic terminals, systems, and methods for network service management

A variably configurable fiber optic terminal as a local convergence point in a fiber optic network is disclosed. The fiber optic terminal has an enclosure having a base and a cover which define an interior space. A feeder cable having at least one optical fiber and a distribution cable having at least one optical fiber are received into the interior space through a feeder cable port and a distribution cable port, respectively. A movable chassis positions in the interior space and is movable between a first position, a second position and third position. The movable chassis has a splitter holder area, a cassette area and a parking area. A cassette movably positions in the cassette area. A splitter module holder having a splitter module movably positioned therein movably positions in the splitter holder area. The optical fiber of the feeder cable and the optical fiber of the distribution cable are optically connected through the cassette, which also may be through the splitter module. In such case, the optical fiber of the feeder cable optically connects to an input optical fiber to the slitter module, where the optical signal is split into a plurality of output optical fibers. One of the plurality of output optical fibers connects to the optical fiber of the distribution cable for distribution towards a subscriber premises. The interior space is variably configurable by changeably positioning the cassette and splitter modules in the movable chassis.
