A method of pretreating a natural gas stream for a floating liquefied natural gas plant is described. A natural gas feed stream is introduced into an amine absorption unit and a temperature swing adsorption unit located on a ship. The temperature swing adsorption unit has a dehydration cycle and a COremoval cycle. The amount of motion of the ship, or the level of COin the natural gas feed stream with reduced contaminants, or both, is monitored. If the amount of motion of the ship or the level of COin the natural gas feed stream with reduced contaminants exceeds a predetermined value, temperature swing adsorption unit is switched from the dehydration cycle to the COremoval cycle.

Process for floating liquified natural gas pretreatment

The present invention discloses a new type of high selectivity UV-cross-linked tetrazole group functionalized polymer nanosieve (TZPIM) membranes, their preparation, as well as their use for gas and liquid separations. The UV-cross-linked TZPIM membrane showed more than 50% improvement in CO/CHselectivity and more than 30% improvement in CO/Nselectivity compared to the uncross-linked TZPIM membrane for CO/CHand CO/Nseparations, respectively.

Tetrazole functionalized polymer membranes

A permeate adapter is provided. The permeate adapter may be used within a pressure vessel. The permeate adapter includes a front portion and an oppositely disposed back portion. The front portion includes a permeate opening for receiving an end of a permeate passage tube of a membrane cartridge and for being in fluid communication with a permeate reservoir. The front portion and the back portion each include one or more fluid openings. Fluid passageways are connected between the one or more front portion fluid openings and the back portion fluid openings. The fluid passageways receive an end of a membrane cartridge at the front portion. At the back portion, the fluid passageways are in fluid communication with a fluid reservoir adjacent the back portion of the permeate adapter.

Permeate adapter for multi-tube pressure vessel

The present invention relates to an integrated membrane/adsorbent process and system for removal of carbon dioxide from natural gas on a ship that houses natural gas purification equipment. Additional membrane units or adsorbent beds are used to reduce the amount of product gas that is lost in gas streams that are used to regenerate the adsorbent beds. These systems produce a product stream that meets the specifications of less than 50 parts per million carbon dioxide in natural gas for liquefaction.

Integrated membrane and adsorption system for carbon dioxide removal from natural gas

The present invention relates to an integrated membrane/absorbent/adsorbent process and system for removal of mercury and sulfur compounds from natural gas on a ship that houses natural gas purification equipment. First mercury and most of the sulfur compounds are removed by an adsorbent bed and then the natural gas stream passes through a membrane unit to produce a partially purified natural gas residue stream to be dried and then liquefied and a carbon dioxide permeate stream that can be used as a fuel gas.

New ionic liquid-solid-polymer mixed matrix membranes were proposed for gas separations such as COremoval from natural gas or N. For the new mixed matrix membranes, the solids such as carbon molecular sieves, microporous molecular sieves, MCM-41 type of mesoporous molecular sieves, or polymer of intrinsic microporosity (PIM) are coated (or impregnated) with ionic liquids such as 1-butyl-3-methyl imidazolium bis[trifluoromethylsulfonyl]amide. The ionic liquids coated or impregnated solids are then dispersed in the continuous polymer matrix to form mixed matrix membranes. These hybrid mixed matrix membranes will combine the properties of the continuous polymer phase, the ionic liquids, and the dispersed ionic liquids coated or impregnated solids phase, which will possibly open up new opportunities for gas separation processes such as COseparation from natural gas or flue gas.

Ionic liquid-solid-polymer mixed matrix membranes for gas separations

The invention relates to a process for removing heavy hydrocarbons and hydrogen sulfide from natural gas. The combination of a silica-gel and an activated carbon adsorber allow for a significant reduction in the overall bed volume required for removal of hydrocarbons.

Adsorber for pretreatment of natural gas containing bulk hydrogen sulfide

A thermal sink is used to recover heat from a product gas leaving an adsorption vessel in a thermal swing adsorption process. Heat that is recovered from the product gas is used to heat a regeneration gas during the subsequent regeneration of the adsorbent material within the adsorption vessel. The step in which the regenerated bed of adsorbent material is cooled prior to returning to adsorption mode is eliminated.

Gas treatment process by temperature swing adsorption

A separation system including a pressure vessel containing a plurality of membrane cartridge assemblies is provided for the separation of a fluid feed. The separation system typically includes an elongated pressure vessel having a feed stream inlet, a residual stream and at least one permeate stream outlet. Disposed within the pressure vessel are a first tube sheet assembly defining a first permeate reservoir, a first fluid reservoir, and a plurality of membrane cartridge assemblies. The first tube sheet assembly includes a first pair of tube sheets, which define the first permeate reservoir therebetween, and a plurality of first sleeves disposed between the first pair of tube sheets. The first permeate reservoir is in fluid communication with the at least one permeate stream outlet. The at least one membrane cartridge assembly includes a membrane cartridge and a first permeate adapter joined to a first end of the membrane cartridge.

Multi-tube pressure vessel

Metal-organic framework (MOF)-polymer mixed matrix membranes (MOF-MMMs) have been prepared by dispersing high surface area MOFs (e.g. IRMOF-1) into a polymer matrix (e.g. Matrimid 5218). The MOFs allow the polymer to infiltrate the pores of the MOFs, which improves the interfacial and mechanical properties of the polymer and in turn affects permeability. Pure gas permeation tests show the incorporation of 20 wt-% of IRMOF-1 in Matrimid 5218 polyimide matrix results in 280% improvement in COpermeability without a loss of CO/CHselectivity compared to those of the pure Matrimid 5218 membrane. This type of MOF-MMMs has significantly improved gas separation performance with dramatically high COpermeability (&#x3e;35 barrer) and higher than 29 CO/CHselectivity at 50&#xb0; C. under 100 psig pressure, which are attractive candidates for practical gas separation applications such as COremoval from natural gas.

Metal organic framework&#x2014;polymer mixed matrix membranes

Assemblies for use in separation of a fluid feed. Assemblies typically include an elongated housing having a fluid feed stream inlet, a residual stream outlet and a permeate stream outlet. The housing contains at least one membrane separation element to form a membrane separation element linear string that at least in part defines a linear permeate passage tube. A permeate adapter is joined with an end of the linear permeate passage tube. The permeate adapter includes a receiving opening for receiving an end of the linear permeate passage tube. The adapter defines a permeate passageway extending therethrough and includes a plurality of permeate discharge openings disposed such as to place the receiving opening and the permeate discharge openings in fluid flow communication.
