Disclosed herein are methods for recovering a by-product stream of an ethylene oligomerization process, and systematically processing this stream in order to form a polymer composition that can be pelletized conventionally. This polymer composition can have a bimodal molecular weight distribution, which can be characterized by a ratio of the respective peak molecular weights ranging from 400:1 to 2000:1, and further, a liquid component of the polymer composition is in a range from 1 to 35 weight percent.

Oligomerization processes and polymer compositions produced therefrom

A process is provided to stabilize and/or reactivate an olefin production catalyst system which comprises contacting an olefin production catalyst system, either before or after use, with an aromatic compound.

Olefin production process

A process for recovering DCPD from a hydrocarbon feedstock comprising introducing the hydrocarbon feedstock to a first column, recovering an overhead stream from the first column comprising C &minus; hydrocarbons, recovering a bottom stream from the first column comprising C &plus; hydrocarbons, feeding the bottom stream from the first column to a second column, recovering an overhead stream from the second column comprising DCPD, and recovering a bottom stream from the second column comprising fuel oil, wherein the two columns are sized and operated at defined conditions such as pressures, temperatures, reflux rates, and reboil rates.

Hydrocarbon upgrading process

A hydrocarbon feedstock containing C,olefins, C,diolefins, CPD, DCPD, and aromatics is processed by the steps of heating a hydrocarbon feedstock containing CPD, DCPD, C,diolefins, benzene, toluene, and xylene in a heating zone, to dimerize CPD to DCPD, thereby forming a first effluent; separating the first effluent into a C,&plus; stream and a C,diolefin stream; separating the C,&plus; stream into a C,-C,stream and a C,&plus; stream; separating the C,&plus; stream into a fuel oil stream and a DCPD stream; and hydrotreating the C,-C,stream to thereby form a BTX stream. In an alternate embodiment, the hydrocarbon feedstock is processed by the steps of heating the hydrocarbon feedstock in a heating zone, to dimerize CPD to DCPD, thereby forming a first effluent; separating the first effluent into a C,-C,stream and a C,&plus; stream; separating the C,&plus; stream into a fuel oil stream and a DCPD stream; contacting the C,-C,stream with a selective hydrogenation catalyst, in a first reaction zone and in the presence of hydrogen, to hydrogenate at least a portion of the diolefins, alkynes, and styrene contained in the C,-C,stream, thereby forming a second effluent; separating the second effluent into a C,-C,stream and a C,olefin stream; and contacting the C,-C,stream with a hydrodesulfurization catalyst, in a second reaction zone and in the presence of hydrogen, to desulfurize at least a portion of the sulfur-containing compounds contained in the C,-C,stream thereby forming a BTX stream.

A process is provided to trimerize or oligomerize olefins in the presence of an olefin oligomerization catalyst and a solvent which is a product of the olefin oligomerization process.

Olefin production

A process is provided comprising: (a) contacting a hydrocarbyl lithium with an alkali metal hydrocarbyloxide in the presence of an aromatic compound; and thereafter (b) recovering an aromatic alkali metal compound; and thereafter (c) contacting said aromatic alkali metal compound with an alpha-olefin. Optionally, a catalytic support is also present during steps a, b, and c.

Aromatic alkali metal alkene addition process

A process is provided to inhibit trimerization catalyst system activity which comprises the sequential steps of contacting a reactor effluent stream with alcohol; removing any desired olefin products; adding an aqueous base to the non-olefin portion; removing a precipitate; separating the aqueous and organic phases; and adding an acid to the aqueous phase.

Process to regulate olefin production by catalyst system inhibition

A process is provided comprising contacting a hydrocarbyl alkali metal compound with a nitrogen-containing compound in the presence of propylene. Optionally, a catalytic support is used during said contacting. Optionally, at least one other alpha-olefin is present during said contacting. In another embodiment a process is provided comprising: (a) contacting a hydrocarbyl alkali metal compound with a nitrogen-containing compound in the presence of propylene; and thereafter (b) recovering an allyl/alkali metal/nitrogen complex; and thereafter (c) contacting said allyl/alkali metal/nitrogen complex with at least one alpha-olefin. Optionally, a catalytic support is present during steps a, b, and c.

Alkene addition process

A process is provided comprising contacting a hydrocarbyl lithium with an alkali metal hydrocarbyloxide in the presence of propylene. Optionally, a catalytic support is used during said contacting. Optionally, at least one other alpha-olefin is present during said contacting. In another embodiment a process is provided comprising: (a) contacting a hydrocarbyl lithium with an alkali metal hydrocarbyloxide in the presence of propylene; and thereafter (b) recovering an allyl alkali metal compound; and thereafter (c) contacting said allyl alkali metal compound with at least one alpha-olefin. Optionally, a catalytic support is also used during steps a, b, and c.

Allyl alkali metal alkene addition process

A process is provided comprising contacting a hydrocarbyl alkali metal compound with a nitrogen-containing compound in the presence of an aromatic compound and at least one alpha-olefin. Optionally, a catalytic support is present during this contacting. In another embodiment of this invention a process is provided comprising: (a) contacting a hydrocarbyl alkali metal compound with a nitrogen-containing compound in the presence of an aromatic compound; and thereafter (b) recovering an aromatic/alkali metal/nitrogen complex; and thereafter (c) contacting said aromatic/alkali metal/nitrogen complex with an alpha-olefin. Optionally, a catalytic support is present during steps a, b, and c.
