A connecting system is provided with a connector adapted to be mounted to the end of a conduit for removably engaging a blunt cannula to establish fluid communication between the conduit and cannula. The connector has a housing which defines a passage for communicating with the conduit and which defines an opening to the passage. The housing also defines a generally frustoconical seating surface which decreases in diameter in the direction toward the opening. A generally fluid-impervious, resilient seal is retained within the housing passage against the seating surface. The seal defines a slit which can accommodate penetration by the blunt cannula and which can reseal upon withdrawal of the blunt cannula.

Medical drug formulation and delivery system includes a reverse osmosis device for purifying water from a source comprising a housing having an inlet for passage of water from the source, a first outlet for passage of purified water from the housing and a second outlet for passage of waste water remaining after purification. A first reverse osmosis multilayer assembly is disposed within the housing in fluid communication with the inlet for purification of at least a first portion of the water from the source. Water treatment chemicals can be positioned in a core about which the first reserve osmosis multilayer assembly is wound. The treatment chemicals are in fluid communication with the first reverse osmosis multilayer assembly to receive the first purified portion of water and for removal of at least chemical contaminants therefrom. A second reverse osmosis multilayer assembly is also wound on the core and is in fluid communication with the water treatment chemicals to receive the chemically purified water for purification of at least a second portion thereof. The second reserve osmosis multilayer assembly is in fluid communication with the first outlet so as to permit passage of the second portion of purified water therethrough. In one preferred embodiment, the first and second reverse osmosis assemblies are formed integrally in a side by side configuration. In an alternative embodiment, they are rolled about the core in an interleaf configuration.

Water purification using reverse osmosis device for formulation of

A system for the sequential and repetitive aspiration and injection of fluid. The system includes a syringe having an internal volume, a piston to vary the internal volume and a chamber divider for separating the internal volume into proximal and distal reservoirs. The chamber divider is moveable along the chamber and is positioned adjacent the distal end of the chamber prior to withdrawal of fluid into the syringe. The proximal reservoir has a maximum displacement volume for receiving fluid. A flow channel provides flow between the proximal and distal reservoirs and a valve disables and enables flow therethrough. A tensile element links the piston and the chamber divider so that after the piston is moved and the proximal reservoir is filled with a first liquid, the chamber divider is pulled away from the distal end of the syringe to enlarge the distal reservoir and draw the blood into the distal reservoir. A conduit is connected with the syringe and is in communication with the patient's blood vessel and contains the first liquid. The flow channel and the conduit are sized and configured such that after the maximum volume of first liquid has been withdrawn into the proximal reservoir and the blood has been withdrawn into the distal reservoir, the maximum volume of first liquid is substantially free from blood, and subsequent displacement of the maximum volume of first liquid back through the valve is sufficient to displace all the blood from the syringe when the piston is advanced.

Sequential medical fluid aspiration and injection system and method

A syringe for the sequential withdrawal of a first liquid and a second liquid. The syringe has a barrel, a proximal piston moveable along the barrel to define a variable volume chamber intermediate the piston and the end of the barrel, and a distal chamber divider piston for separating the variable volume chamber into primary and secondary reservoirs. A flow channel is defined along the syringe for providing flow connection between the primary and secondary reservoirs. An element links the two pistons so that as the proximal piston is moved away from the distal piston, the first liquid enters the first reservoir and thereafter the second liquid enters the secondary reservoir.

A securable collar is used with two connectors to prevent the inadvertent disconnection of IV tubing sets. The securable collar includes a housing supported by one of the connectors, a radial flange extending from the housing, a collar having a frustum-shape, two notches that separate the collar into two longitudinal segments, a transition portion on the exterior of the collar, and a sliding annular locking ring. The locking ring slides on the collar from a small diameter portion over the transition portion to a larger diameter portion. The annular locking ring compresses the larger diameter portion to pivot the longitudinal segments radially inward at the radial flange to grip the second connector.

A securing collar is used in combination with two tubular flow connectors to prevent the inadvertent disconnection of I.V. tubing sets. The securing collar includes a housing supported by one of the connectors, a radial flange extending from the housing, a tubular collar having a outwardly splayed end, at least two notches that separates the splayed collar into at least two elongated segments, a transition portion on the exterior of the collar, and a sliding annular locking ring. The locking ring slides on the collar from the proximal end over the transition portion to the distal segments so that the annular locking ring forces the splayed and segmented distal portions radially inward to grip the second connector.

A self-threading securing apparatus is used in combination with two tubular flow connectors to prevent the inadvertent disconnection of I.V. tubing sets. The securing apparatus includes a hollow shroud surrounding an extending cannula. The inner surface of the shroud includes interior threads for self-threading engagement with the resilient rolled-over exterior surface portion of the reseal connector.

A stopper assembly for sealing the open end of a container and usable with a blunt entry device includes an elastomeric stopper having an annular flange portion, a hollow plug portion, and a thin diaphragm portion, the flange portion covering and abutting the open end of the container, the plug portion depending from the inner circumference of the flange portion and sealingly engaging the interior of the open end of the container, and the diaphragm portion spanning the center portion of the annular flange portion. A metal ferrule for securing the stopper to the container has an annular top portion and an annular skirt portion for engagement with the exterior of the container.

An access site for a fluid delivery system is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a rigid, tubular housing having a stepped inlet end, an outlet end and a bore therebetween, the stepped inlet end having an initial larger diameter cavity than the bore. Within the inlet end is a solid resilient sealing member having a larger and smaller cross dimensional portion positioned within the corresponding portions of the cavity and bore. The resilient member includes an axially parallel perforation and at least one axially protruding sealing ring on the large cross dimensioned portion of the sealing member in contact with a shoulder of the housing. Also included is a means for securing the member in the housing such that the resilient member experiences axial compressive forces at all points of axial contact between the member and housing.

A retainer is used in combination with two tubular flow connectors to prevent the inadvertent disconnection of I.V. tubing sets. The retainer includes at least one open collar having a flexible opening so as to be radially and securely attachable adjacent to an increased diameter portion on a tubing connector. A pair of parallel straps connects the collar with an axially pivotable joint so as to facilitates easy manipulation and engagement of the retainer.

An in-line valve for a medical tubing set has a tubular member characterized by an internal annular valve seat and a generally circular rubber-like valve member disposed transversely of the tubular member with its edges fixed relative thereto and with a central portion thereof tensioned into seating engagement against the annular valve seat whereby to normally close the in-line valve. Elements on the valve member are engageable by a connector as same is assembled to the tubular member to move the valve member off of the valve seat whereby to automatically open the in-line valve upon assembly of a connector thereto.
