An air intake assembly arranged in an engine compartment of an automotive vehicle and configured for directing air into a throttle body of an engine of the vehicle is provided. The air intake assembly includes an air intake duct and an air jacket. The air intake duct is configured to direct air from an inlet duct to the throttle body. The air jacket is arranged around the air intake duct. The air jacket has a first air jacket opening and a second air jacket opening. The air jacket forms an air gap between the air jacket and the air intake duct. Air flowing through the air jacket from one of the first and second air jacket openings to the other of the first and second air jacket openings cools the air intake duct thereby reducing a temperature of air directed from the intake duct into the throttle body.

An air intake assembly configured to direct air into a throttle body of an engine of an automotive vehicle includes an air cleaner enclosure, primary and secondary air intake ducts and a downstream air intake duct. In a first operating condition, inlet air is directed into the air cleaner enclosure unit from the secondary air intake duct and routed (i) through the downstream air intake duct and into the throttle body and (ii) through the primary air intake duct and out of a primary air inlet. In a second operating condition, inlet air is directed into the air cleaner enclosure unit from the primary air intake duct and routed (iii) through the downstream air intake duct and into the throttle body and (iv) through the secondary air intake duct and out of the secondary air inlet. A method of directing the intake air into the throttle body is also provided.

An exterior mirror system for a motor vehicle includes a housing and a coupling arm. The coupling arm is adapted to couple the housing to a body of the motor vehicle. The exterior mirror system also includes a deployable panel substantially resident in the housing in a stowed position and extending toward the body in a deployed position.

A damping section, for an aerodynamic wind tunnel having a test section defined by a nozzle mouth at an upstream end and a collector mouth at a downstream end, is adapted to conform to a perimeter of the collector mouth and extend in the downstream end of the test section, and includes a slotted section adapted to dissipate irregularities in the flow of air at the perimeter of the collector mouth.

A diffusing corner for fluid flow within a wind tunnel comprising an arrangement of diffusing vanes for diverting the flow of air through the corner in a plurality of air passages having increasing cross-sectional area, thereby increasing the overall cross-sectional area of the wind tunnel and slowing the air flow. The vanes are configured to minimize turbulence and the loss of energy through the corner, and to attenuate transmission of sound generated within the wind tunnel.

A system for aerodynamically testing a vehicle having a front pair of wheels and a rear pair of wheels includes a surface for statically supporting the vehicle. The system additionally includes a primary source of air directed towards the vehicle. The primary source of air aerodynamically simulates conditions for the vehicle at a predetermined speed. The system further includes a first supplemental source of air directed into a flow of air generated by the primary source of air immediately behind the first pair of wheels.

Multiple stage system for aerodynamic testing of a vehicle on a static surface and related method

A flexible top for a motor vehicle is provided. The flexible top includes an outer surface, an inner surface, a plurality of air cells coupled between the inner and outer surfaces along the length of the flexible top and a plurality of air inlet ports coupled to the plurality of longitudinal air cells. Operation of the vehicle above a predetermined speed causes air to be forced over an air scoop device which directs a portion of the air over the outer surface as well and another portion of the air into the plurality of air inlet ports. Air flowing into the plurality of air inlet ports flows and into the plurality of longitudinal air cells, inflating and pressurizing the plurality of air cells and tending to separate the outer and inner surfaces to provide the flexible top with increased rigidity. When inflated, the plurality of air cells provide the outer surface with an air foil-like longitudinal cross-section that further enhances the resistance of the flexible top to vibration and flapping.

A method and apparatus for increasing the reducing the lift and drag of a soft top passenger vehicle having a soft top having first and second edges in which the point at which flow over the vehicle separates is determined by conventional techniques and an aerodynamic deflector is provided and attached to the roof of the vehicle forward of the separation point at a position that maximizes aerodynamic efficiency.

Method and apparatus for reducing lift and drag of a soft top passenger

There is disclosed herein a fluid containment device secured to, or integrated within a vehicle cowl or louvered panel serving to divert water or windshield washer fluid 'run-up' away from the operator's line of vision. Such run-up of fluid tends to occur in the vicinity of the ends of a wiper blade at the end of its final or intermittent downward stroke. The fluid containment device is formed to include a ramped lead-in front surface and a vertically oriented trailing surface, creating a high pressure, low velocity space adjacent the rear surface thereof, causing a turbulent airflow to circle downwardly and spiral laterally. The result is to urge the fluid downward toward the base of the louvered panel, and laterally toward the outboard sides of the windshield.
