A tri-optic scanner may be provided by an indicia reader, including a housing, including a lower housing portion having a first surface defining a first horizontal plane, a horizontal window, an upper housing portion bounded by a first frontal plane and a second horizontal plane, a first distal window, a second distal window, a first imaging assembly having a first imaging sensor, configured to capture first image-data from a first field of view (FOV), a second imaging assembly having a second imaging sensor, configured to capture second image-data from a second field of view (FOV), a scanning region, and a visual data analysis module configured to analyze at least one of the first image-data and the second image-data to decode data corresponding to an indicium appearing in at least one of the first image-data and the second image-data.

Tri-optic scanner

Imaging devices are provided having a low-profile substrate structure with a mounting surface that can be removably placed on flat work surface. Further, a low-profile frame structure coincides with a peripheral region of that substrate structure and contains a plurality of imagers, at least some of which are on opposing sides of the substrate structure. The opposing imagers are positioned such that the respective fields of view are inwardly facing toward a central region of an upper surface and define a scan volume extending across the substrate structure and above the central region. The upper and lower bounds of the imaging device form a low-profile assembly generally accessible to scan objects moving across any direction.

A bioptic barcode reader is disclosed for selective use of illumination color to capture appropriate data. The bioptic barcode reader includes a housing and a primary imager positioned within the housing, configured to scan a target object during a first time period. The bioptic barcode reader further includes a primary illumination source positioned within the housing configured to emit primary illumination in a primary wavelength range during the first time period. The bioptic barcode reader further includes a secondary imager configured to capture one or more images of a target object during a second time period. The bioptic barcode reader further includes a secondary illumination source configured to emit secondary illumination in a secondary wavelength range during the second time period, wherein the second time period and first time period are interleaved and the secondary wavelength range is different from the primary wavelength range.

Systems and method for enabling selective use of illumination color to capture appropriate data

An example indicia reader includes a housing configured to be positioned above a product scanning area. The housing has a width, a height, and a width to height ratio equal to or greater than 2:1. A barcode camera is positioned at least partially within the housing and has a first field-of-view (FOV) configured to be directed towards the product scanning area. A vision camera is positioned at least partially within the housing and has a second FOV configured to at least partially overlap the first FOV. A controller is positioned within the housing and is communicatively coupled to the barcode camera and the vision camera. A decoder module is positioned within the housing and is communicatively coupled to the barcode camera and the controller. A video processing module is positioned within the housing and is communicatively coupled to the vision camera.

Indicia reader and indicia reader system

An example bioptic indicia reader assembly includes: a housing having an upper housing portion and a generally upright window positioned in the upper housing portion; and a platter having a proximal edge adjacent the upper housing portion. The upper housing portion comprises a first protrusion located on a first side of a longitudinal centerline of the bioptic indicia reader assembly and a second protrusion located on a second side of the longitudinal centerline. The first protrusion comprises a first camera having a first field-of-view (FOV) having an inner first lateral boundary that extends behind and at an angle to the proximal edge of the platter and the second protrusion comprises a second camera having a second FOV having an inner third lateral boundary that extends behind and at an angle to the proximal edge of the platter.

Bioptic indicia reader assembly

Methods and systems for avoidance of unintended indicia scanning are disclosed herein. An example system may include an imaging device comprising: (1) one or more image sensors; (2) a processing assembly communicatively coupled to the one or more image sensors and configured to: (i) instruct the one or more image sensors to capture the image data including a plurality of image frames over a FOV, (ii) decode an indicia in an initial image frame of the plurality of image frames to generate decoded indicia data of the indica, (iii) determine a first location associated with the indicia in the initial image frame, (iv) determine a second location associated with the indicia in a subsequent image frame, (v) determine whether a positional difference between the second location and the first location exceeds a threshold value, and (vi) transmit the decoded indicia data of the indicia to a host processor.

Methods and systems for avoidance of unintended indicia scanning

Imaging devices, systems, and methods for determining parameters of an object based on chemical indicators detected during a decode event are described herein. An example device includes: a housing; one or more processors; an imaging assembly at least partially disposed within the housing, the imaging assembly including: an imaging sensor operable to capture an image of an object in a FOV; and a computer-readable media storing machine readable instructions that, when executed, cause the one or more processors to: after capturing the image of the object in the FOV, determine whether a decode indicia is present in the image of the object; initiate a decode event for the decode indicia present in the image of the object; detect a chemical indicator in proximity to the decode indicia in the image of the object; and determine, based on the chemical indicator, one or more parameters associated with the object.

Barcode with built-in chemical indicators

At least some embodiments described herein are directed to a machine vision method, which involves capturing both a two-dimensional (2D) image of an object to identify a barcode and determine 3D features, and a three-dimensional (3D) image of the environment. The 3D image data is examined for the presence of the 3D object features. If a feature is missing, a digital fault detection signal is provided. If a feature is present, at least one parameter of the machine vision system is adjusted. The method also includes decoding the barcode and determining the object's orientation based on the barcode location in the 2D image.

Barcode readers with 3D camera(s)

Systems and methods for item detection are disclosed herein. The system comprises a fixed data capture assembly, a handheld indicia reader, a processor, and a memory. The fixed data capture assembly has a first field of view (FOV) associated with an item scanning region and a second FOV associated with a data capture region extending at least partially outside the item scanning region. The processor executes instructions stored in the memory causing the system to: detect an item within the data capture region and outside of the item scanning region; responsive to detecting the item, determine whether the item remains outside the item scanning region during a first time period; responsive to determining that the item remains outside the item scanning region during the first time period, determine whether the handheld indicia reader is utilized; and responsive to determining that the handheld indicia reader is not utilized, trigger an alert associated with non-scanning of the item.

Systems and methods utilizing computer vision to detect a handheld indicia reader

A convertible slot scanner assembly for capturing at least one object appearing in a field of view (FOV) is provided that includes a chassis having an optical cavity and a front opening, a scanning window configured to at least partially cover the front opening of the chassis, and an illumination element disposed inside of the optical cavity of the chassis at a position recessed from the scanning window, the illumination element disposed proximal the front opening, the illumination element configured to provide illumination along an illumination axis that is non-parallel with the optical axis, and where the illumination element provides illumination with an illumination angle that is oblique relative to the normal axis of the scanning window.

Industrial digital barcode reader

The present disclosure provides new and innovative systems, methods, and apparatuses for detecting non-decode events in indicia scanning settings. In an example, a system comprises a depth imaging assembly, a 2D imaging assembly, and a processing device, wherein the processing device is configured to attempt to decode an indicium affixed to a first item that is passing through at least one of a field of view of the 2D imaging assembly or a field of view of the depth imaging assembly, determine a first characteristic associated with the first item based on depth data from the depth imaging array, and responsive to a failed attempt to decode the indicium, detect a second item that is passing through the field of view of the 2D imaging assembly and the field of view of the depth imaging assembly, determine a second characteristic associated with the second item based on depth data from the depth imaging assembly, determine if the first item is a same item as the second item based on comparing the first characteristic and the second characteristic, and responsive to determining that the first item and the second item are not the same item, transmit a message to an alert module that is indicative of a non-decode event.

Indicia tracking and decoding systems

At least some embodiments of the present invention are directed to barcode readers having a housing with upper and lower portions, and a weigh platter. Additionally, the barcode readers include a first imaging assembly having a first imaging sensor, the first imaging assembly having a first field of view (FOV) directed through at least one of the substantially horizontal window or the substantially upright window of the housing, and a supplemental module removably coupled with at least one of the lower housing portion or the weigh platter. The supplemental module includes at least one supplemental imaging assembly having a supplemental imaging sensor having a supplemental FOV.

Systems and methods for adjusting scan volume are provided. An example includes an indicia reading system comprising a two-dimensional (2D) imaging assembly having at least one 2D imaging sensor and operable to capture 2D image data over at least one 2D field of view (FOV); a three-dimensional (3D) imaging assembly having at least one depth sensor and operable to capture depth data over at least one 3D FOV; and a processor configured to: perform a decoding operation on an indicia appearing in the 2D image data and transmit a payload of the indicia to a host when (i) the indicia is captured in the 2D image data and (ii) at least one of the indicia or an object bearing the indicia is positioned within a 3D scan volume.

Systems and methods for decoding indicia payload within a scan volume

An imaged-based scanner includes a housing having a lower portion, an upper portion, and an extension arm extending upward from the lower portion to the upper portion. A lower portion includes a base having an exit window and an imaging assembly mounted in that base with at least one field of view directed upwardly through the exit window. The upper portion has imaging assembly that has at least two fields of view. That upper imaging assembly is mounted such that the two fields of view extend downwardly toward the lower portion with each field of view positioned to have a central axis that is offset with respect to a center normal of the exit window.

Indicia readers with internal displays are disclosed herein. In an embodiment, an indicia reader includes a housing having a lower portion and an upper portion, the lower portion having a first window positioned in a generally horizontal plane, the top portion having a second window positioned in a generally upright plane. The reader further includes an imaging assembly positioned within the housing, the imaging assembly configured to capture image data associated with an item presented at a product-scanning region of the bi-optic reader.
