A removable camera lens attachment has at least two optical elements, wherein the at least two optical elements are aligned to share an optical axis with a prime lens of the camera. The lens attachment has at least two curved surfaces. The at least two optical elements have a first surface that is conditioned to reflect a first portion of the incident light away from the image plane as reflected stray light and a second surface that is conditioned to reflect a second portion of the reflected stray light back toward the image plane to form a ghost image on an image plane of the prime lens. The lens attachment alters the effective focal length of the prime lens by no more than 15%.

Lens attachment for imparting stray light effects

A filter mount for removably coupling an optical element to an encasement for a personal electronics device that provides openings for light paths to at least first and second cameras within the encasement. The filter mount has a frame that defines a first orifice having a bayonet coupling, wherein the first orifice provides a first light path for imaging to at least the first camera, and a second orifice, adjacent to and coplanar with the first orifice and configured to provide a second light path for imaging to at least the second camera. Rotation of the filter mount frame within the bayonet coupling couples the filter mount against the encasement and opens at least the first and second light paths to the corresponding cameras.

A torsional support apparatus is disclosed for craniocaudal rotation of test animals to enable multiple-view imaging. The animal is supported in a U-shaped loop of optically transparent material and the loop is moved to apply torsion to the animal to rotate it about its craniocaudal axis. Methods of imaging also are disclosed that use the torsional support technique.

A method is disclosed for processing of images to detect dental caries, that includes the following steps. Directing incident light () toward a tooth (), where this light excites a fluorescent emission from the tooth. Obtaining a fluorescence image () from the fluorescent light component (), and obtaining a reflectance image () from the back-scattered light () from the tooth. Applying a color balance operation to the reflectance image. Removing the specular reflectance components from the color balanced reflectance image () to give a back-scattered reflectance image (). Registering the fluorescent image with the back-scattered reflectance image. Combining the registered fluorescent image () with the back-scattered reflectance image to provide a diagnostic image ().

System for early detection of dental caries

An apparatus for imaging a tooth having a light source with a first spectral range and a second spectral range. A polarizing beamsplitter () light having a first polarization state toward the tooth and directs light from the tooth having a second polarization state along a return path toward a sensor (), wherein the first and second polarization states are orthogonal. A first lens () in the return path directs image-bearing light from the tooth, through the polarizing beamsplitter (), toward the sensor (), and obtains image data from the redirected portion of the light having the second polarization state. A kinematic optical mount comprising a frame supporting an optical element; a base member having first and second surfaces and providing magnetic attraction to seat the frame against first, second, and third point contacts. An image display system includes: an image projector including a mirror optical element for forming an exit pupil for viewing an image at a viewing location; a viewer eye position detector for generating a signal representing the position of a viewer's eyes relative to the location; and a control system responsive to the signal for providing relative motion between the viewer and the image projector to maintain the viewer's eyes at the exit pupil.
