Catalytic elements are usable in waste gas control processes. The catalytic elements include an open inlet into a hollow body and a closed end thereby forcing fluid or gas through a porous catalytic layer of the element. The catalytic layer includes inorganic fibers and a catalyst disposed on or incorporated into the fibers. The catalytic element also includes an inductive heater disposed therein and a conductive layer about the inductive heater to transfer heat to the catalyst and fluid or gas.

Fire protective compositions include colloidal silica solids, clay, a low biopersistence fiber or refractory ceramic fiber, water, and optionally a chelating agent. Methods of using the fire protective compositions include providing a polymeric foam substrate, applying the fire protective composition on the polymeric foam substrate, and allowing the fire protective composition to dry.

Fire protective compositions and associated methods

A mounting mat for an exhaust gas treatment device includes a blend of inorganic fibers and organic nanofibrillated fibers. An exhaust gas treatment device includes a housing and a fragile structure mounted within the housing by the mounting mat that is disposed in a gap between the housing and the fragile catalyst support structure. Additionally disclosed are methods of making a mounting mat for an exhaust gas treatment device and for making an exhaust gas treatment device incorporating the mounting mat.

Exhaust gas treatment device

A mounting mat for an exhaust gas treatment device includes first and second major opposite facing surfaces, leading and trailing edges, and opposite lateral edges. At least a portion of one or both of the opposite lateral edges includes an edge protectant that protects the mounting mat against erosion from hot gases encountered during the normal operation of the exhaust gas treatment device. The edge protectant remains flexible after it has been applied to the mounting mat and substantially dried. Also disclosed is an exhaust gas treatment device that includes a housing and a fragile structure mounted within the housing by the mounting mat having the edge protectant deposited thereon. Additionally disclosed are methods of making the mounting mat and an exhaust gas treatment device.

A mounting mat for an exhaust gas treatment device including high temperature resistant ceramic fibers containing alumina and/or high temperature resistant biosoluble inorganic fibers, organic binder which at least partially liquefies at elevated temperature prior to binder burnout, colloidal inorganic oxide and optionally intumescent material. The exhaust gas treatment device includes a housing, a fragile catalyst support structure resiliently mounted within the housing, and the mounting mat disposed in a gap between the housing and the fragile catalyst support structure.

A mounting mat for an exhaust gas treatment device including inorganic fibers, organic binder, antioxidant, optionally clay and optionally intumescent material. The exhaust gas treatment device includes a housing, a fragile catalyst support structure resiliently mounted within the housing, and the mounting mat disposed in a gap between the housing and the fragile catalyst support structure. Additionally disclosed are methods of making a mounting mat for an exhaust gas treatment device and for making an exhaust gas treatment device incorporating the mounting mat.
