A furnace system includes at least one wall that defines a workspace. The workspace includes an aircraft part to be cleaned. One or more vacuum pumps are configured to achieve a predetermined vacuum level in the workspace. A gas purifier is configured to remove impurities in a gas to create a purified gas, the purified gas being directed from the gas purifier into the workspace, the purified gas being of a purity and composition that is effective to disassociate oxides on a surface or in a crack of the aircraft part to be cleaned when the workspace is heated to a predetermined temperature and the predetermined vacuum level is achieved in the workspace.

System and method for cleaning turbine components

A method for producing a component from two or more sub-components includes the steps of: producing each of the sub-components using an additive manufacturing process in which a resin, which is radiant-energy-curable, is partially cured using a selective application of radiant energy, wherein each sub-component includes a joint surface in which the resin is partially cured which is cured to a lesser degree than the remainder of the respective sub-component, so as to leave the joint surfaces in a condition suitable for bonding; assembling the sub-components with their respective joint surfaces in mutual contact; and performing a secondary cure of the partially-cured resin at the joint surfaces using an application of radiant energy, so as to further cure the partially-cured resin and bond the sub-components to each other, thereby forming the component.

Method of joining additively manufactured components

A method is provided for adding material to a turbine engine component. The method includes cold spraying a powder towards a region of the component to form a deposit on the region of the component, the component being formed of a parent material, the parent material being a superalloy or a titanium alloy and defining a parent material property value, and the deposit defining a deposit material property value equal to at least fifty percent of the parent material property.

An automated welding system includes a mounting platform configured to receive an object, a welding tool, an imaging device configured to acquire at least one image associated with the object, and a controller. The controller is configured to receive the at least one acquired image, analyze at least one pixel in the at least one acquired image, identify, based upon the analyzing, an area to be welded in the at least one acquired image, wherein the area to be welded includes a defect, and generate, based upon the identifying, control instructions for controlling at least one of the mounting platform and the welding tool to weld the area to be welded.

Systems and methods for automated welding

An automated welding system includes a mounting platform, a welding tool, an imaging device configured to acquire data associated with an object, and a controller. The controller is configured to receive the acquired data, determine an area to be welded in the acquired data, retrieve stored master model data associated with the object, and compare the acquired data to the stored master model data to identify a master model area in the acquired data. The controller is also configured to mask the master model area in the acquired data, such that the master model area is excluded from the area to be welded, and generate control instructions for controlling at least one of the mounting platform and the welding tool to weld the area to be welded.

A method for fabricating a rotor assembly for a turbine, the turbine including a central rotational axis is provided. The method includes forging a first rotor component from a first material, separately forging a second rotor component from a second material, and coupling the second rotor component to the first rotor component at a location radially inward of the first rotor component. The second rotor component is coupled to the first rotor component in at least one axial-circumferential plane that is at least one of substantially parallel and obliquely oriented with respect to the central rotational axis.

A fuel nozzle assembly for a gas turbine includes a plurality of circumferentially spaced vanes with holes for flowing fuel from plenums within the vanes through holes in the vane walls for premixing with air. To tune the nozzle assembly, the holes are resized by reforming the existing holes to a predetermined hole size, securing plugs into the holes, and forming holes through at least certain of the plugs to diameters less than the diameter of the existing holes.

Methods for tuning fuel injection assemblies for a gas turbine fuel nozzle

The pulsed partial pressure hydrogen cleaning of cobalt-based alloys in turbine components is achieved by disposing the component within a vacuum furnace and heating the component. Upon heating to about 1400&#xb0; F., a partial pressure hydrogen gas and a vacuum are repetitively cycled within the furnace by supplying in each cycle a fresh supply of hydrogen gas, followed by removal of reaction products between the hydrogen gas and surface contaminants and substantially all residual hydrogen gas from within the furnace. The repetitious cycling renders the surfaces clean, enabling refurbishment thereof by activated diffusion healing repair.

Methods of hydrogen cleaning of metallic surfaces

A method for removing an oxide material from a crack in a substrate, the method includes: applying a slurry paste comprising a fluoride salt to the crack; heating the slurry paste and the crack to at least a melting point of the fluoride salt to form a reaction product; and removing the reaction product.
