A structure is described which includes two amplifiers in parallel. A first amplifier is considered an always-on amplifier. The always on amplifier provides continual measurements of a current (Isns) across an integrated polysilicon resistor for one or more analog control loops. A second amplifier is considered a switched amplifier. The switched amplifier provides measurements of the current (Isns) for one or more digital control loops. The switched amplifier is switched by one or more switches for performing offset measurements with high accuracy.

One or more layout techniques may be used to balance a current sense circuit. The current sense circuit may include upstairs resistors for an amplifier which are formed of polysilicon material. The upstairs resistors may be arranged symmetrically about one or more stress gradients for improving an accuracy of the current sense circuit. The stress gradients may include stress gradients about an axis and stress gradients from a die edge.

Layout for integrated resistor with current sense functionality

An integrated circuit for measuring current while receiving wireless power is described. The integrated circuit measures a current across a resistor by an amplifier. A gain of the amplifier is based on a pair of matched upstairs resistors and a pair of matched downstairs resistors. The pair of matched upstairs resistors may include an offset in resistance. The integrated circuit includes a switch matrix with switches coupled between the integrated resistor and the pair of matched upstairs resistors. The offset for the pair of matched upstairs resistors may be measured by selectively controlling the switches.

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a power receiving unit having a wireless power receiver that receives a wireless power signal from a power transmitting unit. A rectifier circuit rectifies the wireless power signal to generate a rectified power signal in response thereto for charging a battery. A first wireless radio unit exchanges control data with a second wireless radio unit of the power transmitting unit via a wireless control channel, wherein the exchange of control data facilitates establishment of the wireless control channel, establishment of a charging session between the power receiving unit and the power transmitting unit, and control of the charging session between the power receiving unit and the power transmitting unit.

Wireless communication device and power receiving unit with wireless control channel and methods for use therewith

Systems and methods for object detection are provided. The system includes at least a coil, a small signal generator, a small signal receiver, and a processor. The small signal generator includes a digital-to-analog converter circuit with programmable impedance. The small signal generator is configured to select an output impedance for the digital-to-analog circuit for capacitive sensing or radio-frequency identification (RFID) tag detection; generate a small signal according to the output impedance; and provide the small signal to the coil. The small signal receiver receives the small signal and a response signal associated with the small signal and measures the response signal to generate a measured signal. The processor compares the measured signal with one or more reference signals and performs capacitive sensing and/or detect a RFID tag according to the comparison.

Systems and methods for object detection

Systems and methods for object detection are provided. The system includes at least a coil, a main transmit inverter circuit, and one or more circuits. The one or more circuits are configured to generate a small signal, provide the small signal to the coil, receive a response signal, compare the response signal with one or more reference signals, and detect an object according to the comparison. The object is detected without providing a signal from the main transmit/receive inverter circuit to the coil.

A dual-comparator rectifier circuit of a wireless power receiver includes a receive coil configured to generate a current in response to receiving power through electromagnetic waves from a wireless power transmitter and a bridge circuit. The bridge circuit includes four branches, and one node of each of the four branches is coupled to one of a first node or a second node of the receive coil. A first branch and a second branch of the four branches are coupled to the first node and the second node of the receive coil and include a first circuit and a second circuit, respectively. The first circuit includes a first comparator and a first switch circuit and the second circuit includes a second comparator and a second switch circuit. The first circuit and the second circuit can set a dynamic turn-on threshold for the first switch circuit and the second switch circuit, respectively.

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a power receiving unit having a wireless power receiver configured to receive a wireless power signal from a power transmitting unit. A rectifier includes a plurality of switching circuits configured to generate a rectified voltage from the wireless power signal, based on switch control signals that include a switch-on signal and a switch-off signal for corresponding ones of the plurality of switching circuits. A rectifier control circuit generates the switch control signals based on predicted switching delays. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Systems, circuits, devices, and apparatuses for multi-phase hysteretic buck switching regulators may include master phase components, multi-phase delay generators, and one or more slave phase components. Aspects of charger detection and optimization prior to host control are described herein. In various embodiments, a condition of whether reverse current is present on a system bus is detected. When the condition for reverse current is present, reverse current is sunk by one or more of various reverse current sink circuits. By relying upon one or more of the reverse current sink circuits, for safety, to address or mitigate the condition for reverse current, a detector may be able to identify or distinguish among several different types of charger or charging ports coupled to a system bus allowing a charger to be selected optimally. Further, an indicator of the type of charger or charging port coupled to the system bus is communicated over a single pin interface, for backwards compatibility with circuits capable of identifying between only two different types of chargers.

Charger detection and optimization prior to host control

A method and apparatus is disclosed to charge a battery. A wall adapter may provide a power to a battery charger in a collapsed mode of operation. In the collapsed mode of operation, the wall adapter may provide the battery charger with a collapsed power. The battery charger may provide a charging current and/or voltage in a constant current charge mode of operation and/or a constant voltage charge mode of operation using the collapsed power. When operating in the constant current charge mode of operation, the battery charger provides the charging current and/or voltage having a constant current until the voltage of the battery is less than or substantially equal to a constant charge voltage. Alternatively, when operating in the constant voltage charge mode of operation, the battery provides the charging current and/or voltage having a constant voltage until the voltage of the battery is less than or substantially equal to a float voltage.

Collapsing adaptor battery charger

A circuit includes a switching regulator that produces a first voltage supply output and that includes an operational supply input. The operational supply input may provide power for running the logic in the switching regulator. The circuit also includes a linear regulator that produces a second voltage supply output. A control circuit accepts the first voltage supply output and the second voltage supply output and includes a power output connected to the operational supply input. The control circuit is configured to pass the second voltage supply output to the power output until the first voltage supply output is established. After the first voltage supply is established, the control circuit instead passes the first voltage supply output to the power output through the control circuit. The first voltage supply output may also then provide power to the circuitry that would otherwise have been powered by the linear regulator.

Power bootstrapping for lowering quiescent current

Aspects of dynamic power profiling are described herein. In various embodiments, a current sense operating mode is set for a current sense circuit, and the current sense circuit is enabled for operation. The current sense circuit senses an amount of current supplied by at least one of a plurality of power rails based on the current sense operating mode. The current sense circuit also accumulates and stores a value of the amount of current over a period of time. In certain aspects, a system controller averages the value of the amount of current based on the period of time. The current sense circuit may be configured to operate in various modes of operation including single or scan rail modes of operation, and the average of the value of the amount of current may be evaluated based on the modes of operation of the current sense circuit and/or the system.

Dynamic power profiling

A power management unit accurately measures and controls charging current. The power management unit may be implemented more efficiently than prior designs, leading to cost savings in the implementation of the power management unit as well as in the implementation of the device that incorporates the power management unit. The power management unit incorporates a model of an external charge control device (e.g., a transistor) and uses that model in a way that allows the power management unit to eliminate external device pins and other circuitry.
