An electricity meter includes a pair of terminals configured to connect in-line with a power line, an electrical conductor within the electric meter connecting the pair of terminals through a switch that includes an electric motor with an inductive coil, an inductive coil coupled to the electrical conductor, and a metrology circuit operatively connected to the electric motor in the switch. The metrology circuit includes a current sensor electrically connected to the inductive coil to measure an electric current that flows between the pair of terminals through the electrical conductor and an arc detection circuit electrically connected to one of the inductive coil coupled to the electrical conductor or the inductive coil in the electric motor, the arc detection circuit being configured to detect electrical arcs between the pair of terminals and the power line.

A utility meter includes a meter housing that supports at least one current coil, a temperature sensor, and a processing circuit coupled to both. The current coil can be coupled to receive heat energy from a meter socket. The temperature sensor disposed generates a sensor signal based on a temperature within the meter housing. The processing circuit obtains the sensor signal and generates meter temperature information based at least in part thereon. The processing circuit also obtains a first predetermined threshold based on at least one of time of day information and date information. The processing circuit also determines whether an abnormal condition exists by comparing the meter temperature information to a value based on the first predetermined threshold, and generates an output signal to a memory, display or communication circuit responsive to determining that the abnormal condition exists.

A utility meter includes a meter housing in which are supported at least one current coil, a temperature sensor, and a processing circuit. The current coil can be coupled to receive heat energy from within or on the meter socket. The temperature sensor generates a sensor signal based on a temperature within the meter housing. The processing circuit is operably coupled to the temperature sensor and the at least one current coil. The processing circuit obtains the sensor signal and generates temperature information therefrom, and also generates measurements of current through the current coil. The processing circuit generates an adjustment based at least on the square of the measured current, and determines whether an abnormal condition exists based on the temperature information, the adjustment, and a threshold. The processing circuit can generate an output signal to a display or communication circuit responsive to determining that the abnormal condition exists.

Process control for a paving operation is facilitated by obtaining paving material conveyance information for a time period during which paving material is delivered to a screed of a paver by a material conveyance system and distributed over a surface to be paved. The paving material conveyance information includes data indicating incremental advance of the paving material to the screed of the paver during the period of time and data indicating incremental quantity of the paving material at one or more points of the material conveyance system, both of which are correlated to points in time during the time period at which the data is acquired. Incremental quantity of paving material delivered to the screed is determined to facilitate process control in the paving operation.
