A method and apparatus for executing a method for modifying an output parameter of an electronic device. The method and apparatus emits a first sound. The method and apparatus are further configured to receive a second sound at the electronic device, the second sound based at least in part on the first sound. The processor of the electronic device compares at least one characteristic of the first sound to at least one corresponding characteristic of the second sound. The processor further receives output data from at least one sensor and modifies an output parameter of the electronic device in response to the comparison of the first sound and the second sound and the output data from the at least one sensor.

Methods and devices are provided for monitoring a battery to determine whether sufficient battery power remains to perform an event at a pre-scheduled time. A communications device includes a processor that receives instructions to perform the event at the pre-scheduled time, determines a first amount of time until the event is performed, detects an idle mode of the communications device, the idle mode consuming a minimum amount of power, calculates a second amount of time until the battery is depleted, the second amount of time being calculated while the communications device operates in the idle mode, determines whether the second amount of time is less than the first amount of time, activates a first alert if the second amount of time is less than the first amount of time while remaining in the idle mode, and performs an action prior to the pre-scheduled time while remaining in the idle mode.

Various embodiments are described herein with regards to performing a selective fault recovery for an electronic device having a plurality of subsystems in which one of the subsystems has a fault. The selective fault recovery techniques described herein allow a user to use non-faulty subsystem of the electronic device while selective fault recovery is being conducted on the subsystem having the fault.

The present disclosure provides a method, system and stylus for drawing tool selection. One or more drawing tool settings, each defined by user-selectable drawing tool attributes, are formed by user interaction with a user interface. A user-activated control on a stylus signals a host electronic device to select a drawing tool setting. The settings may be selected in cyclic order. When a selected drawing tool setting includes color, the host electronic device may signal the selected color to the stylus for display using a color indicator on the stylus.
