The effectiveness of advertisements with respect to a group of panelists is measured. Based on the results of such analysis, advertisements and/or variants thereof are selected for presentation to consumers. Effectiveness of advertisements is measured, in one embodiment, by detecting exposure to advertisements, and then monitoring panelist behavior following exposure to an advertisement. In one embodiment, the group of panelists is a representative sample of a larger population, so that observations of panelist behavior can be used as a basis for making decisions regarding presentation of advertisements to a larger audience having characteristics similar to those of the panelists. Once the relative effectiveness for various audiences has been determined, advertisements can be selected for presentation to individual consumers or to groups of consumers, so as to maximize effectiveness. In one embodiment, such analysis and selection is performed substantially in real-time.

Determining relative effectiveness of media content items

A restaurant exhaust gas purifying system for filtering an exhaust gas of a cooking process including an exhaust vent and an exhaust gas purifier coupled to the exhaust vent. The exhaust gas purifier includes a housing which has an inlet connected to the exhaust vent and an outlet, a hot box connected to and housed within the housing, a heating device connected to the housing and configured for heating the hot box, and a rotating filter rotatably mounted to and housed within the housing. The rotating filter has a rotational cycle in which at least a portion of the rotating filter passes through the hot box. The exhaust gas purifier also includes a drive connected to the housing and operably coupled to the rotating filter for rotating the rotating filter, and a stationary filter positioned in the hot box.

Exhaust gas purifying system

The effectiveness of advertisements with respect to a group of panelists is measured. An apparatus having a substantially air-sealed, transparent, front through which a flame within the firebox may be viewed. The apparatus may include a burner configured to hold and burn a liquid fuel and positioned so as to cause a flame from the burning fuel to appear within the firebox. The liquid fuel may be ethanol. The apparatus may include an igniter that has a user-operated igniter control that may be operated by a user from outside of the firebox that, upon operation, causes the liquid fuel within the burner to be ignited. The apparatus may include an extinguisher that has a user-operated extinguisher control that may be operated by a user from outside of the firebox that, upon operation, causes the flame to be extinguished. The apparatus may include a fuel inlet located outside of the firebox, and a fuel channel between the fuel inlet and the burner. A fuel tank may also be provided.

Hearth apparatus

A hood for directing smoke from a wood burning fireplace through a filter or catalytic converter enables a substantial reduction in pollutants released to the environment. In an exemplary embodiment, a hood includes a housing, in which an exhaust cleaner support unit supports an exhaust cleaner for reducing pollutants as smoke is directed from an intake opening of the housing to an exhaust opening of the housing. A rear surface of the housing and side surfaces of the housing abut three walls of the fireplace, reducing air paths behind or beside the hood to capture a substantial amount of the smoke from the fire. The front of the hood is tapered to direct the smoke toward the exhaust cleaner. Due to a mild suction effect from heating of the exhaust cleaner, the front surface of the hood need not extend all the way to the front of the fireplace, and air flow in front of the hood into the flue is not impeded.

Ethanol-burning hearth apparatus

A voicemail message management system and method are provided. A list of voicemail messages is displayed on a screen such as a cellular telephone screen. Indicators specify whether messages are new, urgent, saved, not yet heard, and the like. Other attributes can also be displayed, including for example indications as to source of a message, message duration, date/time, caller, urgent or private, and the like. These indicators provide guidance to the user for selecting which messages he or she would like to hear at a given time. The user can listen to messages, delete them, move them, categorize them, and perform other operations in any order the user chooses.

Visual voicemail management

A personal call management system allows a user to specify how incoming telephone calls should be handled. The user can specify various parameters including modes, filters, schedules, and the like. Incoming calls are routed to a specified telephone number, or sent to voicemail, or otherwise disposed of. Users can change modes manually or can specify automatic mode selection based on time of date, day of week, location, and/or other factors.

Call management

User exposure to media items is detected and measured. A mobile client device carried by a user digitally samples the audio environment of the user on a regular basis. These samples are transformed into a stream of data signatures and compared with reference media items to detect user exposure to the reference items. Purchase behavior following exposure to selected media content items can be detected and tracked as well, so as to gauge effectiveness of media items such as advertisements.

Detecting and measuring exposure to media content items

In a specific embodiment, the present invention provides a method of providing transparent file backup service based on networked computers. The method includes establishing an online redundant array of independent disks (RAID) of a plurality of networked computers maintained by a central service controller on a server. The plurality of networked computers belong to one or more subscribed users. The method further includes storing backup files of each subscribed user on the online RAID. Each subscribed user dedicating at least a portion of storage spaces on corresponding computers to the online RAID for backup files of one or more alternative subscribed users. The central service controller in conjunction of a client software running on each user's computer is configured to coordinate backup file distribution and restoration.

Transparent backup service for networked computers

A system and method provide callee activity mode information to a caller (including a potential caller). Thus the caller can find out the current callee activity mode, and the callee's availability to receive telephone calls. Callees can configure the system and method to provide different types of information depending on various factors including caller identity. The invention provides functionality for displaying callee activity mode information after a call is attempted, or before it is attempted, or both.

A communication remote control system allows a user to remotely configure call management functions across various phone networks using a client device. The communication remote control system centrally handles call management for the user's telephones. The communication remote control system may provide a centralized address book, call log, and voicemail. The user can specify various parameters including modes, filters, schedules, and the like, which are stored in the communication remote control system. The communication remote control system routes incoming calls made to the phone networks to the user's delivery device, which may be part of the client device. Incoming calls are routed to a specified telephone number, sent to voicemail, or otherwise disposed of or users can change modes manually or can specify automatic mode selection based on time of date, day of week, location, and/or other factors.
