In a system for providing computer network connectivity to transit cars that each include first and second mobile radios, and a memory and a processor in each car performing the steps of (a) causing the first and second mobile radios of the car to enter into a far-field mode of operation in communication with a wayside radio; (b) following step (a), the processor of a first car causing its second mobile radio to enter into a couple mode of operation with a first mobile radio of a proximate car; and (c) following step (a), the processor of a second car causing its first mobile radio to enter into a couple mode of operation with a second mobile radio of a proximate car. In the couple mode of operation, first and second mobile radios in proximate cars communicate only with each other.

An integrated security event management system (ISEMS) is disclosed and is based on service-oriented architecture (SOA) and includes one or more computers connected to one or more service-providing devices. At least one of the computers comprises one or more modules that are adapted to perform the following tasks: tasks to dynamically discover the service-providing devices and their services within a transit security domain in about real-time; tasks to acquire asynchronous state information notifications in about real-time from the discovered services; tasks to determine one or more Boolean outcomes from the asynchronous state information in about real-time via a configurable rules engine; and tasks to evaluate the one or more Boolean outcomes in about real-time via a configurable policy engine to determine state changes of one or more security policies.

Integrated security event management system

A message announcement system for broadcasting announcements at predetermined locations has an autonomous announcement computer at each predetermined location, wherein a plurality of event announcements and associated event identifiers are stored therein and, upon receipt of an event announcement command, the announcement computer broadcasts a particular event announcement at the location. A master computer is in communication with each announcement computer for adding, deleting or editing event announcements. This arrangement permits a modular system, whereby autonomous announcement computers, along with their associated public address systems and sign systems, may be added or removed as stations are added or removed. The system is also capable of broadcasting live announcements at each location.
