A system and method includes a seed roll of a saw type gin stand which can easily be inspected in an efficient and safe manner within the normal course of operation. The monitoring of the seed roll is desirable for prediction of irregularities that could significantly hamper the production of a ginning facility. This monitoring can take place by manual inspection with the eye or touch of the operator. In addition, this feature will facilitate the opportunity to introduce a new automatic process by which the control system can monitor the seed roll in order to improve overall productivity of the gin stand.

A vortex tube system for conditioning and blending fibrous material utilizing a helical inlet to the base of a central vortex tube, to condition and blend fibers in a fluidly conveyed stream, and to separate the fibers from debris, by abruptly changing direction of the conveying air flow. The vortex tube system for conditioning and blending combines the helical input with helical shaping of the air flow through the central vortex tube to induce greater dynamics which is continued at the top of the vortex tube through a separate drying chamber.

A vortex dryer for fibrous material utilizes a helical inlet to the base of a central vortex tube to separate fiber from debris by abruptly changing direction of the conveying air flow. The dryer combines the helical input with helical shaping of the air flow through the central vortex tube to induce greater drying for the fiber which is continued at the top of the vortex tube through a separate drying chamber.

A saw type gin stand for separating cotton lint from seed cotton in which the improvement comprises one or more of the inwardly facing surfaces of the roll box being movably adapted to re-shape the roll box. Specifically the inner surface of the roll box door member and a seed roll retaining member are adjustable during operation of the gin to re-shape the shape of the gin to optimize performance and, when the breast is opened, to retain the seed roll within the roll box and prevent pieces of the seed roll from breaking off of the roll.

The present invention related generally to a device for adding moisture to fibrous material such as cotton. The conditioning device receives a continuous cotton batt from a battery condenser. The continuous cotton batt is fed between two opposing drums. Hot moist air is fed into one drum and drawn out of the perforated surface of the drum, through the batt as it is being compressed between the two drums, and into the other drum. The opposing drums are internally compartmented by a plurality of longitudinal staves, each compartment being covered by a corresponding segment of the perforated surface. Hot dry air is fed into the compartments of the drums when the corresponding segment of the surface is not carrying the cotton batt in order to dry the surface of the drum and clear the perforations of any lint that might have been retained on the surface.

A bale tying apparatus for use with a baling press distinguished from the prior art mechanisms in that the articulated arms which shape wire ties about a bale also incorporate elements on the ends thereof to effect the tying of the wires without engagement of the wires with positioning surfaces in the follow block of the press. Thus the tying function is made more reliable and is independent of the follow block precise positioning. A wire loop on at least one end of the wire tie remains in contact with the arm mechanism until the wire knot is made up. The apparatus may use wire loop holding devices at the ends of both arms or may use a housing carried on the end of one arm with an opening for insertion of the other end by the other arm.
