A method for determining an impact score for a digital image includes providing the digital image wherein the digital image includes faces; using a processor to determine an image feature for the faces; using the processor to compute an object impact score for the faces, wherein the object impact score is based at least upon one of the determined image features; weighting the object impact score for the faces based on one of the determined image features for a face; using the processor to compute an impact score for the digital image by combining the weighted object impact scores for the faces in the image; and storing the computed impact score in a processor accessible memory.

Imaging workflow using facial and non-facial features

A system that is capable of generating a multiplicity of representations from a set of multimedia objects, each with a potentially different form, is disclosed. In addition, a system that is capable of generating representations that include thematic groupings in addition to the traditional purely sequential groupings is disclosed. Analysis of metadata to generate derived metadata creates a more comprehensive repository of information about media assets. Using the abundance of metadata, embodiments of the methods disclosed teach uniquely grouping and prioritizing media assets into a storyboard, which is in turn mapped onto view-based representations based on a selected output modality.

Method for creating view-based representations from multimedia collections

Methods of creating one or more audio objects to accompany a sequence of multimedia objects are disclosed. According to one embodiment, the method includes using a processor to analyze the multimedia objects and corresponding recorded metadata to generate derived metadata. The method further receives a selection of one or more analysis tools that are configured to analyze the recorded and derived metadata. Next, a selected subset of multimedia objects are identified and sequenced, which will ultimately be coupled to and accompanied by one or more audio objects. Lastly, an embodiment of the present invention generates an audio track to accompany the selected subset of multimedia objects.

Method for creating audio tracks for accompanying visual imagery

Data points, calendar entries, trends, behavioral patterns may be used to predict and pre-emptively build digital and printable products with selected collections of images without the user's active participation. The collections are selected from files on the user's device, cloud-based photo library, or other libraries shared among other individuals and grouped into thematic products. Based on analysis of the user's collections and on-line behaviors, the system may estimate types and volumes of potential media-centric products, and the resources needed for producing and distributing such media-centric products for a projected period of time. A user interface may take the form of a 'virtual curator', which is a graphical or animated persona for augmenting and managing interactions between the user and the system managing the user's stored media assets. The virtual curator can assume one of many personas, as appropriate, with each user. For example, the virtual curator can be presented as an avatar-animated character in an icon, or icon that floats around the screen. The virtual curator can also interact with the user via text messaging, or audio messaging.

A method of identifying one or more particular images from an image collection, includes indexing the image collection to provide image descriptors for each image in the image collection such that each image is described by one or more of the image descriptors; receiving a query from a user specifying at least one keyword for an image search; and using the keyword(s) to search a second collection of tagged images to identify co-occurrence keywords. The method further includes using the identified co-occurrence keywords to provide an expanded list of keywords; using the expanded list of keywords to search the image descriptors to identify a set of candidate images satisfying the keywords; grouping the set of candidate images according to at least one of the image descriptors, and selecting one or more representative images from each grouping; and displaying the representative images to the user.

User interface elements are provided enabling a user to select a sharing destination for a captured digital image. A plurality of network pathways are identified for communication with the sharing destination using the wireless communication system. A method for searching a database of digital media assets that has been indexed according to a set of general indexers. The method includes receiving a search query and defining specialized search conditions by identifying one or more elements of the search query corresponding to one or more specialized indexers. A subset of the digital media assets are identified by applying the general search conditions, and the subset of the digital media assets is indexed using the identified specialized indexers. A method of automatically classifying images in a consumer digital image collection, includes generating an event representation of the image collection; computing global time-based features for each event within the hierarchical event representation; computing content-based features for each image in an event within the hierarchical event representation; combining content-based features for each image in an event to generate event-level content-based features; and using time-based features and content-based features for each event to classify an event into one of a pre-determined set of semantic categories.

Contextual information is received, and a chosen event is identified based at least upon an analysis of the contextual information. A set of media assets is then identified based at least upon an analysis of the identified event. At least some of the contextual information is associated in a processor-accessible memory system with the chosen event, at least one asset in the set of media assets, or both the chosen event and at least one asset in the set of media assets. By using an event to identify media assets to which contextual information is associated, fewer and more relevant media assets may be retrieved and annotated as compared to conventional techniques.
