The present disclosure provides for a coating formulation that includes a pigment, an organic aqueous emulsion and an organophosphonic acid of the formula: where R is a saturated or unsaturated alkyl having 2 to 10 carbon atoms or a substituted or unsubstituted aryl having 5 to 10 carbon atoms. The coating formulation can be used in forming a topcoat in an exterior insulation and finish system (EIFS). The present disclosure also provides for a method of forming a topcoat on a surface of the EIFS that helps to protect the underlayment of the EIFS against both weathering and moisture while helping to maintain color retention.

The present invention relates to a process for preparing a blend of comprising an aqueous dispersion of polymer particles, a PMHS, an opacifying pigment, and an extender. The blend of the present invention is useful in exterior paint applications, especially where retention of color in the painted substrate is important.

The present invention relates to a compound which is a benzophenone substituted with a hydroxyl-terminated alkylene oxide group (R) of formula 1: where R is a combination of from 1 to 13 propylene oxide groups and from 5 to 20 ethylene oxide groups, with the proviso that the sum of the propylene oxide groups and the ethylene oxide groups is not greater than 25. The compound of the present invention provides a non-volatile, non-toxic photoinitiator that provides excellent gloss retention in exterior architectural coatings.

Redispersible polymer powder mixtures for use in dry-mix formulations having improved properties

The present invention provides shelf-stable, non-cementitious dry mix compositions of inorganic non-cementious materials, such as sand, and water redispersible polymer powder (RDP) containing particles of a multi-stage acrylic copolymer having a calcium methacrylate salt group containing alkali-soluble resin outer stage and one or more inner stage, the particles further containing each of one or more nucleating agent having a boiling point of 150&#xb0; C. to 500&#xb0; C. and a water solubility of 3.5% or less, and one or more colloidal stabilizer, wherein the colloidal stabilizer and the multi-stage acrylic copolymer are contained in the same RDP particle.

EIFS formulations with enhance rain resistance

The present invention provides a water redispersible polymer powder (RDP) for use in the preparation of non-cementitious exterior finishing compositions such as textured paint formulations. Also provided are non-cementitious exterior finishing compositions comprising such RDPs and a method of coating a surface with such a finishing composition. When the RDP of the invention is incorporated into an exterior finishing composition such as a topcoat formulation of an external insulation finishing system (EIFS), the resultant composition provides improved dirt pickup resistance without a loss in wet abrasion resistance over conventional textured paint formulations comprising acrylic latex powders and, preferably, acrylic latexes.
