An apparatus, system and method for adjusting and setting a fixed position of an axially displaceable shaft and rotary chipper disc combination, without requiring an attachment to or obstruction of an end face of either end of the axially displaceable shaft. A rotary chipper disc recoil mechanism is also provided for the purpose of detection of unwanted axial forces placed upon the rotating shaft caused by unintentional chipping of metal, and for limiting consequential damage caused by the unintentional chipping of metal and other non-wood materials.

Axial adjustment apparatus for chipper disc

A wood chipper having a rotatable disc that contains a series of slots that pass through the disc. A primary chipper knife is located at the entrance of each slot which separates slices from a work piece and directs the slices through the slot. A counter knife unit is mounted within each slot for engaging the slices leaving the primary chipper knife to reduce the size of the chips as they move through the slot. The counter knife unit contains a first series of spaced apart chip contact elements that have a first height to contact the slices as they leave the primary chipper knife to reduce the size of the slices. The counter knife further contains a second series of chip contact elements that have a second height that is less than that of the chip contact element in the first series. Each contact element in the second series is arranged to contact chips leaving the contact elements in the first series to further reducing the size of the chips.

A disc type wood chipper that utilizes a high percentage of the energy required for chipping but not substantially utilized in the material size reduction within the machine to produce chips of a small enough size such that the chips produced can be turned into wood flour or wood pellets with the expenditure of very little additional energy.

Apparatus for producing small size wood chips

A mixing head assembly comprising a housing having an input mix chamber passageway and a non-perpendicular output passageway. The assembly also includes a first input including a first nozzle for injecting a first fluid into the input mix chamber passageway and a second nozzle for injecting a second fluid into the input mix chamber passageway whereby the second fluid can mix with the first fluid to form a mixed fluid. The first nozzle and the second nozzle are configured to inject the first fluid and the second fluid into the input mix chamber passageway such that the first fluid and the second fluid meet at an intersection point. The first axial line and the second axial line are neither co-linear nor co-planar. Furthermore, an intersection point of the first fluid and the second fluid is not located along a longitudinal axis of the input mix chamber passageway.

Method of replacing a blind flange manhole cover of the type including a bolted on blind flange mounted on a bolting flange of a negative pressure storage tank manway with a manhole cover having a hinged door assembly includes the step of removing the blind flange manhole cover from the bolting flange of a tank-installed manway. The manhole cover may be attached to the bolting flange of the existing manway. A seal may be provided for creating a leakproof joint between the cover and a cover receiving surface when the hingedly attached manhole cover is in a closed position. A manway having a hingedly attached manhole cover may be provided with a hinge frame. A locking assembly may be provided adjacent the cover that includes a locking and sealing element for engaging the cover with a seal for locking and sealing the manway.

Apparatus for processing logs to manufacture wood chips. The apparatus includes a circular disc for passing a series of blades through a chipping station and a chute and spout assembly for feeding logs from a conveyor into the chipping station. A lifting mechanism is mounted for rotation upon a shaft which is situated adjacent to but outside of the chute and spout assembly. A drive unit is arranged to turn the shaft so that the lifting mechanism is rotated between a retracted position outside of the flow described by the chute and spout assembly and an extended position inside the chute and spout assembly whereby the lifting mechanism can contact logs within the assembly and move the logs contra to the direction of flow.

Method of converting existing negative pressure tank access ways

A method of replacing an outwardly opening manhole cover that provides access to the interior of a tank or the like with an inwardly opening cover that includes the steps of removing the outwardly opening cover from the bolting flange of a tank installed manway and attaching a mounting flange to the manway bolting flange. A pair of hinges are connected to the mounting flange and an inwardly opening cover assembly is rotatably mounted on the hinges. The cover of the assembly is arranged to close and seal against either the mounting flange or the inner rim of the existing manway.

A chipper employs a rotary cutting disk with a plurality of radial knife assemblies. Each knife assembly has a reversible blade of generally trapezoidal cross section. The assembly has a knife holder and a knife clamp that sandwich the blade between them. An elongated load bar is seated in a recess in the clamp and supports a sloping surface at a concealed edge of the blade.

A chipper for cutting uniform chips from a log has a sliver ring mounted on the rotary disc radially outside the cutting blade assemblies, and also has cooperating arcuate wrapper member and special sliver bedknife mounted on the front plate of the chipper housing. The wrapper member is concentric with the sliver ring and extends circumferentially around it for a distance, and also extends axially towards the disc and beyond the proximal face of the sliver ring to define a radial gap between the ring and the wrapper. The sliver bedknife extends across the face of the disc from one end of the arcuate wrapper. The sliver bedknife, the wrapper, and the sliver ring cooperate with one another to limit progression of slivers that are formed from wooden logs at the position of the stationary bedknife.

A horizontal disk wood flaking machine has two or more continuous feed conveyors each of which has a vertical chute or feed box that brings wooden logs to an upper surface of the cutting disk. The drive motor for the disk is situated below the disk at the under side of the machine, so that the power train is from the bottom upwards.

A knife assembly for a wood chipper has a cassette, a top blade holder, and a trapezoidal cross-section double-edge blade. The cassette is of profiled cross-section, with a full-width proximal section, a stepped-down blade holder support surface on an intermediate section, and a blade support surface on a distal or tip section. A proximally and downward sloping surface extends from a distal edge of the blade holder support surface to the blade support surface. The blade has substantially flat upper and lower surfaces so as to avoid structure which is susceptible to snapping or splitting under the stresses normally encountered in a chipping operation. One edge of the trapezoidal blade is exposed and extends forward of the cassette and the blade holder. The tapered ground surface that defines the concealed edge of the blade faces against the sloping surface of the cassette. Molten babbitt is poured through openings in the blade holder to form babbitt shims filling the space between the concealed blade sloping surface and the sloping surface of the cassette. Thus, the blade is supported both from beneath and at the concealed ground or tapered surface. Further, the babbitting provision permits precise positioning and adjustment of knife projection.

A chipper for cutting uniform chips from a log having a rotating disc containing a plurality of radially disposed cutting stations, each having a knife assembly positioned adjacent a chip slot. Each knife assembly has an elongated cassette having a knife receiving recess formed in the top front surface thereof. A reversible knife is located in the recess by means of a key and is held in place by a retaining bar so that one cutting edge of the knife is accurately positioned at the entrance to the chip slot. Reversing the knife in the cassette after the first edge becomes dulled similarly positions the second cutting edge. Preferably, a plurality of knives are mounted end to end in the cassette.
