An adjustable drill has a drill body having a face surface with a directional feature provided therewith. At least one cartridge is mounted adjacent the face surface and selectively slidable along the directional feature to provide adjustment. At least one insert is releasably affixed in an insert pocket provided in the cartridge. In further examples, the adjustable drill may have a central cutting system in combination with the adjustable cartridge type system, wherein the central cutting system may be modular. There may also be provided a modular type of holder arrangement to provide flexibility to adapt the system for various applications.

Adjustable indexable drill and modular system and holder

An adjustable drill is provided comprising a drill body having at least one face surface with a plurality of serrations provided therewith. The drill further has at least one cartridge having a cooperating plurality of second serrations, to be driven with the drill body when assembled therewith. The at least one cartridge includes at least one insert pocket, and at least one insert is releasably affixed in the insert pocket provided in the cartridge. In further examples, the adjustable drill may have a central cutting system in combination with the adjustable cartridge type system, wherein the central cutting system may be modular. There may also be provided a modular type of holder arrangement to provide flexibility to adapt the system for various applications.

Adjustable indexable drill

An adjustable drill having a drill body having a longitudinal axis, and a face surface including an aperture extending into the drill body. A directional feature adjacent the aperture extends toward an edge of the drill body, and a longitudinal gullet extends from the face surface along at least a portion of the drill body. A cartridge adjacent the face surface is selectively slidable along the directional feature, and a cutting face having an insert pocket positioned adjacent the edge of the drill body in which an insert is releasably affixed.

An indexable insert drill for producing a hole in a workpiece by relative rotary motion between the drill and workpiece. The drill comprises an elongated body having a central axis and a leading end, and a plurality of cutting inserts mounted on the leading end of the body. The cutting inserts are displaced at different radial locations relative to the central axis of the body. Each cutting insert has a cutting edge formed by a pair of respective inside and outside active cutting edge segments with the inside cutting edge segment being located closer to the central axis of the body than the outside cutting edge segment thereof. The inside and outside cutting edge segments of the respective cutting inserts extend at obtuse angles to one another and define therebetween apexes which are axially displaced at different distances from a plane normal to the central axis of the drill at the leading end of the drill which distances increase in length from an innermost one of the inserts to an outermost one thereof.
