Disclosed herein is a flame resistant composition comprising a compatibilized blend of a polyphthalamide and a poly(arylene ether); and a phosphinate, wherein the composition is substantially free of linear aliphatic polyamides.

Flame resistant polyphthalamide/poly(arylene ether) composition

A composition is prepared by melt blending specific amounts of a polyamide, a flame retardant that includes brominated polystyrene, a polymeric flame retardant synergist, and a compatibilizing agent. The polymeric flame retardant synergist can be a poly(arylene ether), a poly(arylene ether)-polysiloxane block copolymer, or a mixture thereof. The composition is useful for molding automotive and electrical parts.

Flame retardant polyamide composition, method, and article

A thermoplastic composition comprising a compatibilized blend of poly(arylene ether) and polyamide; a reinforcing fiber; and an electrically conductive filler. Greater than 50 weight percent of the polyamide, based on the total weight of the polyamide, is polyamide-6. The thermoplastic composition is useful in articles that are painted by electrostatic painting.

Reinforced poly(arylene ether)/polyamide composition and article comprising the foregoing

A composition containing particular amounts of a poly(arylene ether), a poly(arylene sulfide), an electrically conductive carbon black, and glass fibers is particularly useful for molding heat-resistant articles suitable for electrostatic painting. Compared to a corresponding composition without the poly(arylene ether), the composition exhibits improved paint attraction and markedly improved paint adhesion, and it allows the use of a lower level of conductive carbon black to achieve the same electrical conductivity. The composition thus provides an excellent balance of impact strength, electrical conductivity, and paint attraction and adhesion.

The aliphatic-aromatic polyamide has a melt viscosity greater than or equal to 2000 Pa-s at a shear of 1000 secondand a temperature of 330&#xb0; C. and the composition has a melt viscosity greater than or equal to 160 Pascal seconds (Pa-s) at a shear of 1500 second(s) and a temperature of 330&#xb0; C.

A composition comprises a thermoplastic resin and an electromagnetic shielding agent that contains a synergistic combination of metal-coated fibers and metal fibers. The composition provides effective EMI-shielding at low levels of the electromagnetic shielding agent. Also described are methods of preparing the composition, as well as pellets and articles comprising the composition and its reaction products.
