A method for controlling a plurality of fuel injectors for a vehicle may include determining a total fuel mass for a combustion stage in a cylinder. The method further may include determining a first injection mass for a first fuel injector and a second injection mass for a second fuel injector. A sum of the first injection mass and the second injection mass is equal to the total fuel mass. The first fuel injector and the second fuel injector are configured to provide fuel to the cylinder. A first minimum mass per pulse of the first fuel injector is greater than a second minimum mass per pulse of the second fuel injector. The method further may include controlling the first fuel injector and the second fuel injector based at least in part on the first injection mass and the second injection mass.

Dual fuel injector control method for a vehicle

Presented are multi-pulse fuel injection systems for monitoring engine fuel injectors for missed pulses, methods for making/using such systems, and vehicles equipped with such systems. A method of operating a fuel injection system includes an engine controller determining if the system's injectors are operating in a multi-pulse mode for injecting multiple fuel pulses per combustion cycle to an engine's cylinders and, if so, monitoring pulse signals transmitted to the injectors for injecting the multiple fuel pulses. For each combustion cycle for each injector, the controller flags a cylinder misfire if any one of the fuel pulses for that combustion cycle is missed. For each cylinder, the controller calculates a misfire ratio of a total number of cylinder misfires to a total number of combustion cycles; if one of these misfire ratios exceeds a calibrated misfire limit, the controller commands a resident subsystem to execute control operations to mitigate the misfires.

Multi-pulse fuel injection systems and control logic for port fuel injection pulse monitoring in engine assemblies

A system according to the principles of the present disclosure includes a fuel volatility module, a temperature generation module, and a fuel control module. The fuel volatility module estimates a volatility of fuel provided to an engine based on an engine torque and an engine speed. The temperature generation module generates a temperature of an intake valve of the engine. The fuel control module selectively increases an amount of fuel provided to the engine based on the temperature of the intake valve, the engine torque, and the fuel volatility.

A control system includes an engine enable module and a fuel control module. The engine enable module determines whether predetermined operating conditions of a spark ignition direct injection (SIDI) engine are satisfied and enables an engine prime mode when the predetermined operating conditions are satisfied. A system for a vehicle includes an initialization module and a purge control module. The initialization module generates an initialization signal based on a crankshaft speed signal and/or a fuel rail pressure signal. The initialization module also generates the initialization signal based on an initial purge value and an assembly-line monitoring value. The purge control module generates a purge signal to purge air from a fuel injection system of an engine. The purge signal is generated when the crankshaft speed signal indicates that a crankshaft of the engine is stationary and/or the fuel rail pressure signal indicates that a fuel rail pressure is less than a predetermined value. The purge signal is also generated based on the initialization signal.

Systems and methods for purging air of a fuel injection system

A fuel control system includes a pressure comparison module that generates a pressure control signal when a fuel supply pressure is greater than a predetermined pressure value, a temperature comparison module that generates a temperature control signal when a temperature of an engine is greater than a predetermined temperature value, and a pre-crank fuel module that selectively dispenses pre-crank fuel prior to cranking the engine based on the pressure control signal and the temperature control signal. An engine control system includes a driver module and a diagnostics module. The driver module includes a high-side driver and a low-side driver, which selectively actuate a load. The driver module generates status signals based on detection of each of a plurality of failure modes of the high-side and low-side drivers. The diagnostics module increments a first error count for a first mode of the plurality of failure modes when the status signals indicate the driver module has detected the first mode. The diagnostics module increments a corresponding total count each time the driver module analyzes the first mode.
