A system () for monitoring a railroad grade crossing () includes an illumination device () for illuminating a section of a railroad grade crossing (), and a control device () in communication with the illumination device (). The illumination device () is configured to obtain data of the section of the railroad grade crossing () while illuminating the section, and the control device () is configured to receive and evaluate the data. Further, a method () for monitoring a railroad grade crossing () is provided.

System and method for monitoring a railroad grade crossing

A grade crossing control system includes a controller that receives start and end inputs corresponding to a train traversing an outer approach, determines the difference in time between the start and end inputs, and uses the difference in time to determine a delay period by which activation of a grade crossing warning system will be delayed following detection of the train by a track occupancy circuit in an inner approach in order to compensate for slow moving trains. The start and end inputs for the outer approach may be supplied in different ways including a separate track occupancy circuit for the outer approach, by train detection devices unconnected to the track at the start and end of the outer approach, or by overlapping track occupancy circuits positioned at the start of the outer and inner approaches.

Grade crossing control system

A surge suppression circuit for a track circuit is provided. The surge suppression circuit comprises a first surge protection device including a first pair of silicon avalanche diodes and a second surge protection device including a second pair of silicon avalanche diodes. The first surge protection device is connected on a first connection line between a first terminal of a railroad signaling electronic equipment to be protected from a surge and a first terminal of a first rail of two physical rails. The second surge protection device is connected on a second connection line between a second terminal of the railroad signaling electronic equipment and a second terminal of a second rail of the two physical rails. The first surge protection device and the second surge protection device are connected to an earth ground terminal.

Track circuit surge protection

A system for simulating a railroad track. The system comprises one or more modular track simulation units that are smaller than conventional track simulators and are easy to use with and be connected to a device being tested (e.g., grade crossing predictor). Each track simulation unit may have one of a plurality of impedances associated with a corresponding railroad track length. The units are combinable such that the system can simulate multiple, different track lengths. Each unit has a plurality of test points that can be connected to the device under test and/or used to alter conditions of the simulated track.

Modular railroad track simulator

A railroad system including a wayside inspector system responsive to data originated from a real-time train tracking system, such as GPS or PTC is provided. The data from the real-time train tracking system includes data indicative of a respective train en route to a respective crossing. The data is further indicative of a respective direction of travel on a respective railway track of the respective train en route to the respective crossing. Disclosed embodiments offer a technical solution involving no physical sensing devices on the railway tracks for detection of the respective train en route to the respective crossing. This solution is effective for automated testing and reporting of timely activation of crossing warning equipment based on the data originated from the real-time train tracking system.
