Fresnel lens arrays, devices, systems and methods of forming them are described herein. One array includes a Fresnel lens array, having a first portion including one or more defined areas of one or more Fresnel lenses, and a second portion including a first section that has its optical center located in a second section that is vertically above or below the first section and wherein each section is formed from a defined area of the one or more Fresnel lenses.

A building controller includes a controller that is operatively coupled to a motion sensor and provides one or more control signals based at least in part on the motion sensed by the motion sensor. A lens member includes a HDPE (high density polyethylene) lens and a lens mounting structure that includes a lens retention hook. A bracket defines an aperture in registration with the motion sensor and further defines a lens securement aperture configured to accommodate the lens retention hook. The bracket may also define a lens securement spring configured to provide a biasing force to the lens retention hook of the lens mounting structure.

A measurement assembly for determining a torque applied to a shaft including a disk coupled to a motor such that the motor is to drive rotation of the disk about a central axis. The measurement assembly also includes a first ring and second ring coupled to the disk and the shaft, respectively, and a sensor unit to measure a rotational displacement between the first and second rings about the central axis. The measurement assembly further includes one or more deformable members coupled between the disk and the shaft, each including a pair of ends and a body extending therebetween. For each deformable member, one of the ends is coupled to the shaft and the other end is coupled to the disk such that a rotation of the shaft relative to the disk about the central axis is to cause the deformation of the body.

A method and apparatus are provided, wherein the apparatus performs the steps of detecting a moving object within a secured area, determining a size of the moving object, determining that the size exceeds a predetermined size threshold value associated with an animal, determining an aspect ratio of the moving object, determining that the aspect ratio meets a predetermined aspect ratio threshold value associated with an animal or crawling human, but not an upright human, retrieving an indicator from memory that establishes whether an animal is present or not present within the secured area, and setting an alarm upon detecting that the moving object exceeds the predetermined size threshold value, that the determined aspect ratio meets the predetermined aspect ratio threshold value of an animal or crawling human, and that the indicator establishes that there is no animal present in the secured area.

Apparatus and method for rapid human detection with pet immunity

An apparatus is provided that includes a near infrared (NIR) light emitting diode (LED) having a predominant axis of NIR light transmission from the NIR LED and a lens that disperses NIR light received from the NIR LED with respect to first and second planes, the lens having an air to lens light entry boundary where light from the NIR LED enters a surface of the lens and a lens to air boundary where the light exits the lens in each of the first and second planes, wherein an intersection formed by the second plane with the surface is a line that is concave on each side of the predominant axis, and wherein a radius of the air to lens light entry boundary of the line successively increases over each span of a predetermined number of degrees progressing outwards along the line from the predominant axis.

Highly efficient NIR light distribution for imaging based intrusion detection

A security device is disclosed, wherein the security device includes a Fresnel lens covering the entire face of the device, a housing, and a pyroelectric detector. The center portion of the Fresnel lens, which contains the Fresnel lens elements, is molded flat, its edges are molded in the final installed form, and its edges contain appendages that secure the lens on the device so there are no gaps between the lens and the device.

A tamper resistant motion detector is provided that can include a housing, a capacitive sensor, and a microprocessor. The housing can include a window, and the capacitive sensor can be located inside of the housing, behind the window. A capacitance of the capacitive sensor can change when the capacitive sensor detects an object on the window or within a predetermined distance from the window, and the microprocessor can read the capacitance of the capacitive sensor and use the capacitance of the capacitive sensor to determine whether to activate an alarm or to determine whether to activate an anti-mask system.

Dual loop processing can be provided for real-time signals from the magnetometer, as the magnet moves relative to it, to determine when at least one of small gap or large gap indicating alarms should be issued. A system and method for detecting the presence of a moving object within a detection zone is provided. The system includes a first sensor responsive to light in a first range of wavelengths in the detection zone, a second sensor responsive to light in a second range of wavelengths in the detection zone, wherein the second range of wavelengths is different from the first range of wavelengths, and a processing component for generating a variable threshold value for the first sensor based upon at least maximum and minimum output signals from the second sensor within a predetermined period of time, and for comparing the first output signal with the variable threshold value. The processing component generates an activating signal if the first output signal exceeds the threshold value.

Motion detection system and method

A motion detector for detecting a tampering within a detection zone. A vibration-sensing unit sensitive to vibrations applied to the detector is provided to produce a vibration output signal representative of a detected parameter of the vibrations. A light-sensing unit sensitive to light in a predetermined spectrum is provided to produce a light output signal representative of a detected parameter of the light in the predetermined spectrum. A processing unit is further provided to determine if the vibration output signal is consistent with a predetermined model indicative of a tampering and producing an activating signal accordingly.

This invention relates generally to the field of motion detection sensors, and in particular to a system and method for adjusting the position of a printed circuit board relative to a focusing element. The invention includes a housing having a front opening and an interior cavity. A focusing element is located within the front opening and the detector is coupled to a printed circuit board located within the interior cavity. A cover is coupled to the printed circuit board and disposed within the interior cavity. A cam is operatively coupled with the cover and the printed circuit board for adjusting the position of the printed circuit board such that the detector's position is adjusted relative to the focusing element.

A system and method of discerning human intrusion from animal presence without compromising sensitivity to human intruders exhibiting low intensity infrared signatures. At least four infrared sensing elements are arranged with at least one horizontal pair and at least one vertical pair, such as within a quad-sensing element device. To generate an intrusion alert in a pet-immune mode, simultaneous changes in infrared energy must be registered in at least two vertically adjacent detection zones spanning two tiers of sensing elements, corresponding to detecting a standing or semi-standing human intruder. Intrusion is generated in a non-pet-immune detection mode in response to registering sufficient infrared activity within any one or more individual detection zones. The focal lengths of the lens elements and position of the lens tiers are configured to produce a vertical separation of detection tiers sufficient to prevent a pet from simultaneously occupying space in two vertically adjacent detection zones.

Logical pet immune intrusion detection apparatus and method

A tamper resistant magnetic contact switch apparatus for alarm systems that has a plurality of magnetic reed switches configured in a logic circuit and a magnetic pack for actuation. A magnetic shield disposed around the switches defines an actuation zone. In combination with the magnetic shield preventing magnetic fields from reaching the switches from locations outside the actuation zone, the magnet pack activates two of the five switches when positioned within the actuation zone to complete the logic circuit. The magnet pack does not, however, activate any of the other switches. If any of the other three switches are activated, or if either of the two activated switches are deactivated, the logic circuit is broken and the alarm circuit is activated.
