Provided is a milling tool, a whipstock assembly, a well system, and a method. The milling tool, in at least one aspect, includes a plurality of blades extending radially outward from a mill body, each of the plurality of blades having a primary surface and first and second side surfaces coupled to opposing sides of the primary surface, adjacent blades of the plurality of blades separated by a spacing. The milling tool may further includes a lug slot extending partially into one of the plurality of blades from the first side surface exposed by the spacing, the lug slot configured to engage with a lug of a related tool to couple the milling tool with the related tool when rotating in a first direction and to disengage from the lug of the related tool to release the milling tool from the related tool when rotating in a second opposite direction.

Provided is a two part drilling and running tool, a downhole tool, a well system, and a method for forming a well system. The two part drilling and running tool, in at least one aspect, includes a conveyance, a smaller assembly coupled to an end of the conveyance, the smaller assembly having a collection of threads located proximate a downhole end thereof, the collection of threads configured to help engage and/or disengage from a wellbore tool positioned there below. The downhole tool, in accordance with this aspect, further includes a larger bit assembly slidably coupled to the conveyance, the smaller assembly and larger bit assembly configured to slidingly engage one another downhole to form a combined bit assembly.

In one or more examples, a method comprises advancing a tubing string along a primary wellbore toward a junction having a low-side exit to a secondary wellbore, with a guide sub positioned at a leading end of the tubing string. The guide sub has a buoyancy within a well fluid external to the guide sub. The buoyancy of the guide sub is used to bias the guide sub toward a high-side of the primary wellbore while moving the guide sub across the low-side exit to a downstream portion of the primary wellbore. Subsequently, the guide sub is used to guide a fluid or tubular component between the tubing string and the downstream portion of the primary wellbore across the low-side exit.

Lateral access control in downhole window joint is provided via a window joint. The window joint includes an interior cavity with a first end and a second end opposite to the first end, a first opening defined at the first end, and a lateral opening through a wall of the window joint and into the interior cavity between the first end and the second end. The window joint also includes a deflector where, in a first state, the deflector permits access between the first end and the second end and, in a second state, the deflector blocks access between the first end and the second end and permits access between the first end and the lateral opening by deflecting an object travelling through the lateral opening. The window joint also includes an access control system configured to transition the deflector between the first state and the second state.

The buoyant guide sub, in one aspect, includes a hollow tubular structure, the hollow tubular structure including one or more tubular walls. The buoyant guide sub, according to at least one aspect, further includes a housing coupled to and slidable relative to the hollow tubular structure, the hollow tubular structure and the housing operable to form a pressurized chamber, the hollow tubular structure and housing having a combined mass per unit volume less than a specific gravity of 2.

A junction for use in a multilateral completion system is presented. The junction comprises a metal sealant applicable to a lateral component of the multilateral completion system. The metal sealant is expanding in response to hydrolysis and after activation forms a seal and an anchor with a well casing or tubing of the multilateral completion system. The metal sealant is expanding in response to one of an alkaline earth metal hydrolysis and a transition metal hydrolysis. More specifically, the metal sealant is expanding in response to one of magnesium hydrolysis, aluminum hydrolysis, calcium hydrolysis, and calcium oxide hydrolysis.

A method for securing a downhole assembly to a casing string disposed within a wellbore includes moving, in a first direction, at least a portion of the downhole assembly within a passageway of a landing nipple that forms a portion of the casing string; exchanging a wireless signal between a first communication device that is coupled to the downhole assembly and a second communication device that forms a portion of the nipple; and preventing further movement of the downhole assembly, relative to the nipple, in the first direction in response to the exchange of the wireless signal and when the first communication device is spaced from the second communication device in the first direction.

A tool, system, and method for reentry access into a lateral wellbore. The tool, utilized in the system and the method, can include a body with an internal flow passage, an inflatable bladder disposed along an exterior portion of the body, and a flow restrictor that can partially restrict fluid flow through the internal flow passage and create a pressure differential across the tool when fluid pressure rises at an inlet of the internal flow passage. The pressure differential can cause inflation of the inflatable bladder and a surface of the inflatable bladder can be extended radially outward from the body in response to the inflation, where the extended surface can push the tool away from a wall of a main wellbore toward an opposite wall of the main wellbore and divert the tool into a lateral wellbore.

This disclosure may generally relate to drilling operations and, more particularly, to systems and methods for sidetracking an existing well. Specifically, examples of the present disclosure may include creating a window by introducing a pH-modifying fluid downhole to degrade a portion of a casing string, thereby creating the window through which a secondary wellbore may be drilled. A method for creating a window in an oilfield tubular may comprise of providing a pH-modifying fluid in the oilfield tubular disposed in a wellbore and contacting a degradable section of the oilfield tubular with the pH-modifying fluid to degrade at least a portion of the degradable section and form an exit window in the oilfield tubular.

Systems and methods are described for drilling a new secondary wellbore from a primary wellbore in which a production string is already deployed. The production string is severed below a desired kick-off location for the new secondary wellbore and the upstream portion of the production string is withdrawn from the primary wellbore, thereby exposing an end of the remaining production string. A lateral orientation device (LOD) is mounted on the exposed end of the production string. The LOD includes a shoulder for seating on the exposed end, anchoring mechanism(s) to secure the LOD to adjacent tubular(s), and seals to sealingly engage adjacent tubulars. The LOD may include a contoured surface for orientation of a tool, such as a whipstock, which may be utilized to drill a new wellbore. Alternatively, a work string may be coupled with the LOD to perform pumping operations in the wellbore below the LOD.

A hookless hanger for a multilateral wellbore can include an assembly with an upper tubular body and a lower tubular body. The upper tubular body can be positioned in a main bore of the wellbore. The lower tubular body can be pivotally coupled to the upper tubular body at a joint. The lower tubular body can pivot relative to the upper tubular body and can be positioned in a lateral bore of the wellbore.

It may be required at a well site to create a lateral wellbore from a primary wellbore. A dissolvable whipstock assembly may be positioned within a primary wellbore to deflect a mill or drill bit to create a secondary wellbore. The dissolvable whipstock assembly may include a wear plate coupled to a whipstock. The wear plate comprises an incline or ramp to deflect a mill or drill to a casing exit or pre-milled window to create the secondary wellbore. The wear plate comprises a material that is strong enough to withstand the force applied by the drilling and is degradable or dissolvable. Any one or more components of the whipstock may be dissolvable such that at least a portion of the whipstock dissolves to form a pathway through any remaining portion of the dissolvable whipstock and the primary wellbore.

Provided are systems for connecting a control line to an intelligent tool positioned below a lateral borehole junction in accordance with the disclosure and the illustrated FIGURES. An example system comprises a lateral deflector. The lateral deflector comprises a lateral deflector body, a lateral deflector top coupled to the lateral deflector body, a deflection surface, and a feedthrough which is covered by the lateral deflector top when the lateral deflector top is coupled to the lateral deflector body. The lateral deflector top is removable and configured to be decoupled from the lateral deflector body. The system further comprises a tubular string, a control line connector head coupled to the tubular string, a first control line coupled to the feedthrough and descending downhole of the lateral borehole junction, and a second control line coupled to the control line connector head and descending downhole from the surface.
