A fluid management system for use with an ultrasound probe assembly can include first and second conduits each configured to extend from and be fluidly connected to the ultrasound probe assembly. A fluid directing system can include a circulation pump fluidly connected to both the first and second conduits. A fluid degassing system can be fluidly connected to the first and second conduits. The fluid degassing system can be configured to remove at least some gas from the fluid in the ultrasound probe assembly. A temperature control system can be fluidly connected to the first and second conduits. The temperature control system can be configured to control the temperature of the fluid in the ultrasound probe assembly. A volume adjustment system can be fluidly connected to the first and second conduits. The volume adjustment system can be configured to adjust the volume of the fluid in the ultrasound probe assembly.

System and method for treating tissue, fluid management system, and ultrasound system including and/or for use with same

A method of treating colorectal cancer included placing a high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) probe proximate a designated treatment volume at one of the colon and the rectum of a patient. The method further includes delivering HIFU via the HIFU probe at a frequency of at least 1 mHz for at least 3 seconds to raise a temperature of a first portion of the designated treatment volume to above 65&#xb0; C., thereby ablating the first portion and causing a tissue defect within the designated treatment volume. The method further includes applying a nonablative dose of energy via the HIFU probe to a second portion of the designated treatment volume to provoke stem cell homing in the second portion, thereby encouraging tissue regrowth.

System, apparatus and method for high intensity focused ultrasound and tissue healing activation

A method for delivering ultrasound can include positioning at least a focal zone of a transducer of an ultrasound probe proximate to targeted tissue of a patient. The method can include supplying power to the transducer to deliver ultrasound energy from the transducer to a first portion of the targeted tissue for a predetermined amount of time to create a first focal lesion in the targeted tissue. The method can include at least temporarily ceasing power to the transducer so as to at least temporarily cease delivery of ultrasound energy from the transducer to the targeted tissue. The method can include supplying power to the transducer to deliver ultrasound energy from the transducer to the targeted tissue at least substantially continuously and along a predefined treatment path.

System, apparatus and method for high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) and/or ultrasound delivery while protecting critical structures

A probe tip assembly for receiving at least a portion of an ultrasound probe therein includes a body having a proximal end and an opposing distal end. A first opening may be located at the proximal end of the body. The first opening may be sized and shaped to receive at least a portion of the probe therein. A second opening may be proximate the distal end of the body. A membrane may cover the second opening.

An apparatus for and a method of performing sonasurgery may include a room coordinate system and at least one probe with localization technology. At least one variable volume fluid bladder may be positioned between at least a portion of the transducer and tissue to be treated. The system may further include a reservoir containing fluid and a first pump operatively connected to the bladder and the reservoir. The first pump may be configured to move fluid into the bladder. A second pump may be operatively connected to the bladder and the reservoir. The second pump may be configured to move fluid out of the bladder.

System and method of delivering focused ultrasound treatment using a variable volume fluid bladder

A device including a focused ultrasound probe, a first balloon, and a second balloon. The first balloon can be located at least partially inside the second balloon. The inner balloon can be configured to act as a fluid interface, a mechanism for cooling, and a mechanism for changing tissue depth of a focal point of the probe. The second balloon can be filed with a thermosensitive hydrogel configured to turn from a fluid at room temperature to a gel at physiologic temperatures. The first and second balloons can be configured to create a fluid interface between the probe and targeted tissue of a patient.
