The application discloses integrated air suspension and platform lifting systems that utilize an existing air supply for lifting one or more platforms installed in a trailer or hauling vehicle. An apparatus for lifting a rear gate or platform of a trailer or a hauling vehicle is disclosed that includes an actuating mechanism operable to pivot the platform between a lowered position (e.g., where the end of the platform is in contact with the ground) and a range of raised positions (e.g., where the platform is raised to meet an elevated platform such as a loading dock). The lifting mechanisms for raising and lowering the platform(s) may utilize a pressurized gas supply from a compressor. In some embodiments, the lifting mechanism may be supplied with pressurized air from a compressor of a brake system of a tractor. In some embodiments a separate locking mechanism is provided to hold the platform in place after the lifting system has moved it into a desired position.

Air bag system for lifting trailer platforms

An intermodal chassis for highway transportation of shipping containers, the chassis having a forward axle and a rear axle, and incorporating an air bag suspension that automatically deflate the air bags when the brakes are locked, preventing damage when loading a container onto the chassis. Large 53 foot long box/high cube type shipping containers may be loaded along their entire length with the chassis having a rear axle positioned under the chassis frame so that the kingpin-to-rear-axle length is no more than 40 feet, and a forward axle positioned under the frame between the gooseneck and the rear axle so that a forward-to-rear-axle length is at least 12 feet. Other features include self-scaling and load-leveling, and other weight savings include use of smaller sized aluminum wheels.

Intermodal chassis

An intermodal chassis for highway transportation of 53 foot shipping containers having a rear axle positioned under the chassis frame so that the kingpin-to-rear-axle length is no more than 40 feet, and a forward axle positioned under the frame between the gooseneck and the rear axle so that a forward-to-rear-axle length is at least 12 feet. The chassis includes air bag suspension that automatically deflate the air bags when the brakes are locked, preventing damage when loading a container onto the chassis. Other features include self-scaling and load-leveling, and other weight savings include use of smaller sized aluminum wheels.

An electrical equipment cabinet is provided that includes an enclosure adapted to contain electrical equipment. A battery compartment, which is located in the enclosure, is adapted to contain at least one battery electrically coupled to the electrical equipment. The battery compartment has first and second opposing side walls, a bottom surface, and a first pair of vents located in the first and second side walls through which external air flows to remove heat. In addition, a second pair of vents, which are also located in the first and second side walls, allow gas emitted by the battery to escape by diffusion. A thermal stabilizing unit is disposed in the battery compartment for regulating the temperature of the battery in contact therewith. The thermal stabilizing unit has a conduit therein for conducting the external air flow between the vents in the first pair of vents.
