An animal monitoring and deterrent device includes a lure body, one or more sensors, an animal deterrent mechanism, a mounting fixture, and a controller. The lure body is configured to attract the attention of a pest animal. The sensors are configured to detect movement or presence of the pest animal proximal to the device. The animal deterrent mechanism includes a source of animal deterrent and an animal deterrent delivery system. The animal deterrent delivery system is fluidly connected to the source of animal deterrent and is configured to disperse the animal deterrent upon activation of the animal deterrent delivery system. The mounting allows at least one of rotational, pivotal, or translational motion of the lure body. The controller is communicatively connected to the one or more sensors and the animal deterrent mechanism and analyzes data generated by the sensors to initiate release of the animal deterrent.

Animal monitoring and deterrent device

An animal monitoring and deterrent device includes a lure body, one or more sensors, an animal deterrent mechanism, and a controller. The lure body is configured to attract the attention of a pest animal. The sensors are configured to detect movement of the device or presence of the pest animal proximal to the device. The animal deterrent mechanism includes a source of animal deterrent and an animal deterrent delivery system. The animal deterrent delivery system is fluidly connected to the source of animal deterrent and is configured to disperse the animal deterrent upon activation of the animal deterrent delivery system. The controller is communicatively connected to the one or more sensors and the animal deterrent mechanism and analyzes data generated by the sensors to initiate release of the animal deterrent. An associate method to deter a pest animal from attacking endangered or threatened species utilizing the device is also provided.

A reversible joint includes male and female components. The male component has a rigid stud with a shaft region and a head region having a greater width, than the shaft region. The female component includes a polymer-based bushing including a polymer sleeve and an embedded heating element. The polymer sleeve is formed from a shape memory polymer (SMP) or an SMP composite and includes a central channel. The polymer-based bushing is capable of being activated by heating with the embedded heating element to reversibly render the polymer sleeve elastic and allow deformation of the central channel to an expanded channel width during insertion of the head region. The polymer sleeve becomes rigid after deactivation of the polymer-based bushing for retention of the male component. Load bearing assemblies formed by connecting modular structures with the reversible joint are also provided along with installation tools for the same.

Reversible joining device and method

A method of detecting an event and recording quantitative parameters associated with the event is provided. The method includes securing an event detection and recording system on a piece of equipment, the event detection and recording system comprising a plurality of sensors, an internal power source, and a microcontroller. The method further includes activating a low monitoring mode and measuring one or more quantitative parameters with the one or more of the sensors at a first sampling rate to generate low monitoring mode sensor data; analyzing the low monitoring mode sensor data to detect initiation of a triggering event; terminating the low monitoring mode upon detection of the triggering event; and activating a high monitoring mode including measuring and recording one or more quantitative parameters at a second sampling rate, where the second sampling rate is greater than the first sampling rate. The associated system is also provided.

Event detection sensor and recording system

A health exposure sensor system includes a housing, a monitoring platform in the housing, and a power source. The monitoring platform includes at least one modular gas sensor, a circuit board having a microcontroller, and data ports for connecting the modular gas sensor to the circuit board. The housing includes manifolds to direct atmospheric air to the modular gas sensor. The modular gas sensor includes a gas detector and a gas sensor circuit board having a gas sensor microcontroller. The gas sensor microcontroller includes at least one on-chip universal asynchronous receiver-transmitter peripheral and at least one on-chip USB peripheral, where both peripherals include input/output functionality and are connected to a single data port interface for external communication. An associated method of operating the same includes selectively enabling individually either the UART peripheral or the USB peripheral via digital I/O configuration of the microcontroller.

Modular health exposure sensor system

Systems for positioning and bonding a nutplate to a substrate having an aperture include a nutplate engagement fixture and a temperature sensor retention fixture. The nutplate engagement fixture includes a rigid tube and an elastomeric tube engaged with the rigid tube, the elastomeric tube having an elongated tube sized to provide a friction fit with the aperture and retain the elastomeric tube within the aperture. The rigid tube is operable to engage the nutplate at one end and the elastomeric tube is configured to anchor the nutplate engagement fixture at the aperture and secure the nutplate in contact with the substrate. The temperature sensor retention fixture includes a fixture body sized and configured to engage with the nutplate and at least one passageway within the fixture body sized and configured to allow a temperature sensor to be inserted or embedded therein with an end proximal a surface of the nutplate.

Bonded nutplate rapid cure system

A health monitoring garment is provided. The health monitoring garment includes an article of clothing comprising at least one compression section to provide a snug fit against a person wearing the article of clothing and a sensor island. The sensor island includes stretchable circuitry, two or more sensors, one or more power supplies, and optionally one or more wireless communication modules within a self-contained unit. At least one of the sensors comprises a stretchable sensor which may be a respiration sensor. The sensor unit may be provided independent of the health monitoring garment or as a complete system. The sensor island and compression section of the article of clothing also include fasteners of complementary geometries for reversible attachment and disengagement of the sensor island from the compression section.

Embodiments of systems and methods for adhering hardware to a substrate, wherein the method comprises coupling the hardware with a rigid tube or an elastomeric tube, applying adhesive onto a bonding surface of the hardware, inserting the rigid tube or the elastomeric tube through an aperture of the substrate until a surface of the substrate contacts the bonding surface having adhesive applied thereon, and adhering the hardware to the substrate by applying localized heat through a heating component disposed within the rigid tube or the elastomeric tube.

Embodiments of systems and methods for positioning and bonding a nutplate to a substrate comprising at least one aperture, wherein the system includes a nutplate engagement fixture formed from a rigid tube and an elastomeric tube, a heater operable to deliver heat to a bonding surface of the nutplate, at least one temperature sensor operable to measure the temperature of the bonding surface of the nutplate, a temperature sensor retention fixture operable to position and secure the at least one temperature sensor to the nutplate, and a heater controller operable to control the output from the heater.
