Examples for managing virtual infrastructure resources in cloud environments can include (1) instantiating an orchestration node for managing local control planes at multiple clouds, (2) instantiating first and second local control planes at different respective clouds, the first and second local control planes interfacing with different respective virtualized infrastructure managers ('VIMs'), where the first and second local control planes establish secure communication with the orchestration node, and (3) deploying, by the orchestration node, services to the first and second local control planes. Further, the first and second local control planes can cause the respective VIMs to manage the services at the different respective clouds.

Managing virtual infrastructure resources in cloud environments

Techniques disclosed herein relate to migrating virtual computing instances such as virtual machines (VMs). In one embodiment, VMs are migrated across different virtual infrastructure platforms by, among other things, translating between resource models used by virtual infrastructure managers (VIMs) that manage the different virtual infrastructure platforms. VM migrations may also be validated prior to being performed, including based on resource policies that define what is and/or is not allowed to migrate, thereby providing compliance and controls for borderless data centers. In addition, an agent-based technique may be used to migrate VMs and physical servers to virtual infrastructure, without requiring access to an underlying hypervisor layer.

A method of deploying a network service across multiple data centers, each having a cloud management server running a cloud computing management software to provision virtual infrastructure resources thereof for a first tenant among a plurality of tenants, includes maintaining for each data center static inventory data that indicate virtual infrastructure resources that are available thereat to the first tenant, identifying, in response to a network service request for the first tenant, a virtual network function associated with the network service, generating commands to deploy the virtual network function based on a descriptor of the virtual network function, selecting one of the data centers in which the virtual network function is to be deployed based on the descriptor of the virtual network function and the static inventory data of each data center, and issuing the commands to the selected data center to deploy the virtual network function.

A hybrid cloud computing system having a private data center and a public cloud computing system is discussed. The private data center is managed by a first organization. The public cloud computing system is managed by a second organization, and the first organization is a tenant in the public cloud computing system. The hybrid cloud computing system is configured to generate a mapping that contextualizes virtual objects migrated between the private data center and the public cloud computing system based on the objects' location. Such a mapping is maintained to expose the true hybridity of the hybrid cloud rather than present two distinct views of a private data center (or private cloud) and a public cloud.

A method for managing an application executing in a computing system is disclosed as including a private cloud operated by a first organization and a multi-tenant public cloud of which the first organization is one of the tenants. The method comprises instantiating a first virtual object in the private cloud and instantiating a second virtual object in the public cloud for executing the application cooperatively with the first virtual object. Mapping associated with the first virtual object is generated, wherein the mapping comprises a first identifier having a context of the private cloud and a second identifier having a context of the public cloud. The method further includes detecting migration of the first or second virtual object such that both of the first and second virtual objects are instantiated in a single one of the private and public clouds and updating the mapping to reflect the migration.

Techniques for executing jobs in a hybrid cloud computing system. A job defines multiple states and tasks for transitioning between states. Jobs are passed between systems that execute different tasks via a message bus, so that the different tasks may be executed. A job manager controls execution flow of jobs based on a job descriptor that describes the job.

According to one embedment, a supply chain monitoring system can collect performance information from a server associated with each of a tier 1 control tower, tier 2 product assembler, tier 3 part and/or component manufacturer, and tier 4 material supplier to monitor a performance of one or more functions of a supply chain. The system obtains event information regarding an event potentially adversely impacting performance of the supply chain, determines a range of disruption of the event indicating a likely spatial range impacted by the event, and compares the range of disruption of the event against the supply chain to determine that a supply chain component has been impacted by the event.

The method of migrating a plurality of virtual computing instances that are in communication with each other within a private data center to a public cloud includes the steps of assigning, for each different pair of virtual computing instances, a numerical value that represents an amount of data transmission between the pair over a predetermined period of time, determining a recommended order of migration for the virtual computing instances based on the assigned numerical values, and migrating the virtual computing instances according to the recommended order.
