An ion detector () comprising a semi-conductor avalanche photodiode () and a scintillation layer (), the scintillation layer having a thickness in the range 0.1 mm to 00 mm, the scintillation layer arranged to generate photons towards the photodiode resulting from ions impinging on the scintillation layer.

Ion detector

A charged particle spectrum analysis apparatus comprising an electric field generator arranged to subject charged particles to a time-varying electric field, a detector to record charged particle time spectrum data of charged particles which have passed through the electric field, the detector comprising a position-sensitive detection portion, and the time-varying electric field arranged to be activated in synchrony with activation of detector, and the time-varying electric field arranged to subject a predetermined region of said detection portion to consecutive charged particle deflection cycles.

Charged particle spectrum analysis apparatus

An ion spectrum analysing apparatus () comprising an electric field generation arrangement () which, in use, is operative to accelerate ions into a flight tube (), and further comprising a detector (), and recording apparatus () which is operative to record data representative of the spatial distribution of scattered ions impacting on the detector, and in use the recording apparatus is triggered at multiple times to record spatial distribution data relating to respective times-of-arrival of the ions.
