Systems () and methods () for packaging an antenna () in a communication device (). The methods involve coupling the antenna to a Printed Circuit Board ('PCB') such that the antenna is mechanically supported thereby. A hollow shaft () of a control knob () is positioned over the antenna and at least a portion of PCB () such that the antenna is embedded within the control knob. Thereafter, the control knob is mechanically secured to a housing () of the communication device. The control knob is arranged such that it can move in a radial direction and a vertical direction () relative to the chassis. The control knob is also arranged such that the hollow shaft is able to move freely over the antenna without coming in contact therewith.

Communication device comprising an external control with an embedded antenna assembly

Systems and methods for providing an auxiliary user input device () for use with a mobile electronic device (). The methods involve: releasably securing () a first device () comprising a resistive touch screen () to a second device () comprising a capacitive touch screen (), in a position wherein a primary plane of the capacitive touch screen is substantially aligned in parallel and subjacent to a primary plane of the resistive touch screen; establishing () a communication link () between a first communications interface () in the first device and a second communications interface () in the second device; generating resistive touch screen output data in response to user input received () at the resistive touch screen; and communicating () the resistive touch screen output data from the first device to the second device via the communication link.

Auxiliary user input device

Connector systems () for electrically connecting two or more electrical components include a connector () having one or more magnets (). Each magnet () is attracted to another magnet (), or to a magnetically-attractable element on the other connector () of the system () when the connectors () are mated. The magnetic attraction helps to maintain the connectors () in a mated condition. The magnets () can be oriented so that surface normals of pole faces () of the magnets () are angled in relation to a mating direction of the connectors ().

Connector systems with magnetic retaining means

A remote control panel (RCP) is provided for controlling an operation of a radio (). The RCP () includes a keypad () configured for receiving user input commands for controlling the radio using the same keypad commands as would be used when operating the same without the RCP. The RCP also includes a display unit () for displaying information concerning an operational state of the radio. The RCP further includes a communication interface (--) configured for relaying information from the RCP to the radio located a distance away. The interface is also configured for relaying information from the radio to the RCP. The RCP includes a computer processing device configured for providing an extended capability for the radio exclusive of a predefined functional capability. The extended capability is selected from the group consisting of additional digital data processing capability, additional display capability, and additional communication capability.

Keypad display unit

A mobile wireless communications device is switchable between a plurality of wireless communications operating modes and may include an antenna, a wireless transceiver connected to the antenna, a first memory for storing a respective compressed file for each of the plurality of wireless communications operating modes, and a second memory having a faster access speed than the first memory. The device may further include a processor connected to the wireless transceiver, the first memory, and the second memory for copying the compressed files from the first memory to the second memory, uncompressing a selected one of the compressed files to generate and store a selected compressed file in the second memory, and processing the selected uncompressed file from the second memory and controlling the wireless transceiver based thereon.
