A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided for providing real-time or near real-time pricing information with improved efficiency. A special price may be returned in response to a prescription inquiry, and/or an alternative price obtained from stored prescription transactions. The prescription inquiry may be transmitted to a claims processor computer and/cash discount system in certain scenarios. If a response is not received within a time threshold, an estimated cost range may be determined. The real-time or near real-time pricing information is provided to a prescriber computer and may improve the efficiency of related systems, as well as prescription adherence by patients.

Method, apparatus, and computer program product for providing real-time pricing information

A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided for providing a patient with prescribed medication cost information at a point of prescribing. A prescription benefit coverage inquiry is received and provided to a claims processor for processing. Historical data associated with prior prescription transactions is utilized to determine an estimated cost range of a prescribed medication in the event of an insufficient or absent response from a benefits manager. The estimated cost range is then provided to a prescriber to share with a patient. A targeted out-of-pocket cost according to incentives, such as vouchers and drug manufacturer rebates may also be provided.

A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided for providing a patient with prescribed medication cost information at a point of prescribing. Systems and methods are provided for generating an individual's longitudinal medication history. Consent to generate an individual's longitudinal medication history across a pharmacy(s) and a claims processor(s) is received. A first collection of medication history data corresponding to the individual is selectively identified from medication history data files associated with the claims processor(s) and a first plurality of individuals. The selective identification is based on a claims processor patient identifier(s) associated with the individual and the claims processor(s). A second collection of medication history data corresponding to the individual is selectively identified from medication history data files associated with the pharmacy(s) and a second plurality of individuals. The selective identification is based on a linking index(s) associated with the claims processor patient identifier(s). An individual's longitudinal medication history is generated, based on the first collection of medication history data and the second collection of medication history data.
