As may be implemented in a manner consistent with one or more embodiment, aspects of the disclosure are directed to latency control with signals, such as audio signals. For instance, a quality characteristic of an audio signal having time-sequenced frames exhibiting a signal quality can assessed, and an output indicative of the signal quality is provided based on the assessment. An amount of latency in the audio signal is dynamically adjusted based on the output, and the latency can be used in processing the time-sequenced frames, such as to use future frames in assessing or correcting a current frame during a time period facilitated via the latency.

Dynamic latency control

A system () for processing a sound signal () that allows dynamic customization of perceived spatial positions and sound qualities of sound components associated with the sound signal (). The system provides apparatus for processing a sound signal () that includes an input to receive the sound signal (), a sound unmixer () coupled to the input to receive the sound signal () and unmix at least one sound stream () from the sound signal () based on at least one unmixing instruction (), and an output coupled to the sound unmixer () to output the at least one sound stream ().

Process for removing voice from stereo recordings

A frequency-domain method for format conversion or reproduction of 2-channel or multi-channel audio signals such as recordings is described. The reproduction is based on spatial analysis of directional cues in the input audio signal and conversion of these cues into audio output signal cues for two or more channels in the frequency domain.

A method and device are described to process an event on an audio rendering device. The method may comprise rendering a first audio stream via at least a first audio signal in a first audio playback channel and a second audio signal in a second audio playback channel and monitoring occurrence of the event with an associated second audio stream. Upon occurrence of the event, the first audio signal may be panned to the second audio playback channel, the first audio signal being mixed with the second audio signal in the second audio playback channel. The second audio stream is then rendered via the first audio playback channel.

The method decomposes the one dimensional signal two-dimensional function that is continuous in both dimensions. The two-dimensional function can be printed as a pattern on to a paper substrate using a standard printer. The audio signal is recovered by scanning the pattern and processing the scanned values.

Audio-visual scrubbing system

A system for pitch-shifting an audio signal wherein resampling is done in the frequency domain. The system includes a method for pitch-shifting a signal by converting the signal to a frequency domain representation and then identifying a specific region in the frequency domain representation. The region being located at a first frequency location. Next, the region is shifted to a second frequency location to form a adjusted frequency domain representation. Finally, the adjusted frequency domain representation is transformed to a time domain signal representing the input signal with shifted pitch. This eliminates the expensive time domain resampling stage and allows the computational costs to become independent of the pitch modification factor.

A method and apparatus for synchronizing audio to an asynchronous clock while preserving pitch utilizes a phase-vocoder to implement time-scaling without pitch-shifting.

A system and method for preserving the natural sound of a signal that is processed by an analysis step of converting the signal into a sequence of overlapping windowed DFT representations and a synthesis step of converting these DFT representations back to a time domain signal. For example, the system and method are applicable to analysis-synthesis systems based on a sequence of overlapping windowed, DFT representations in which either: (1) the analysis transforms overlap in time by a different amount than the synthesis transforms, or (2) the modification involves a re-mapping of transform values from one frequency location to another. The phases of the complex-valued DFT representations may be modified so that synthesis of the time domain signal results in a natural sound despite the effects of e.g., either (1) or (2).
