The present invention provides a PHHM for the measurement of a subject's BP and, optionally, one or more other vital signs, comprising a housing located on a PHHCD or a hand-held component of a computing system; a blood flow occlusion means located in the housing such that, when the housing is located on the PHHCD or the hand-held component, an open surface of the blood flow occlusion means is available to be pressed against a body part of the subject or to have a body part of the subject pressed against it; a pressure sensor adapted to provide an electrical signal indicative of the pressure applied to or by the open surface; a means for detecting the flow of blood in the body part of the subject when pressure is applied to or by the open surface; and means for receiving electrical signals from the pressure sensor and the blood flow detecting means and for transmitting electrical signals indicative of the pressure and blood flow to the processor of the PHHCD or the computing system, wherein the processor of the PHHCD or computing system is adapted to process signals acquired by the pressure sensor and the blood flow detecting means to provide at least a measurement of the BP of a subject, the processor is further adapted to carry out a process to measure a DBP value and a SBP value, the DBP and the SBP values are estimated in such a way that the difference between the measured optical signals and those that would be generated by the estimation of the DBP and SBP values is minimized or the DBP and the SBP values are estimated in such a way that the difference between the measured incremental pressure signals and those that would be generated by the estimation of the DBP and SBP values is minimized. The present invention also provides alternative PHHMs and SADs for use in such PHMS.

Personal health data collection

The present application provides a personal hand-held monitor for the measurement of a subject's blood pressure and, optionally, one or more other vital signs, comprising a housing located on a personal hand-held computing device or a hand-held component of a computing system; a blood flow occlusion means located in the housing; a pressure sensor adapted to provide an electrical signal indicative of the pressure applied; a means for detecting the flow of blood in the body part of the subject when pressure is applied; and means for receiving electrical signals from the pressure sensor and the blood flow detecting means and for transmitting electrical signals indicative of the pressure and blood flow to the processor of the personal hand-held computing device or the computing system, wherein the processor of the personal hand-held computing device or computing system provide at least a measurement of the blood pressure of a subject. The processor is further adapted to carry out a process to measure a diastolic blood pressure value and a systolic blood pressure value.

A radio frequency circuit for processing a radio frequency signal. The circuit comprises a variable frequency oscillator system and a radio frequency signal processing circuit arranged to process a radio frequency signal using the output of the variable frequency oscillator system. A digitiser is arranged to receive the output of the radio frequency signal processing circuit and generate a digitised signal. A phase noise capture circuit is arranged to capture the phase noise in the output of the variable frequency oscillator system. The radio frequency circuit is arranged to compensate for the effect of the phase noise in the output of the variable frequency oscillator system on the output of the radio frequency signal processing circuit, by digitally processing the digitised signal generated by the digitiser using the output of the phase noise capture circuit.

Radio frequency circuits and methods of processing radio frequency signals

The present invention provides a personal hand-held monitor comprising a signal acquisition device for acquiring signals which can be used to derive a measurement of a parameter related to the health of the user, the signal acquisition device being integrated with a personal hand-held computing device. The present invention also provides a signal acquisition device adapted to be integrated with a personal hand-held computing device to produce a personal hand-held monitor as defined above.

A hardware device for monitoring and intercepting data packetized data traffic at full line rate, is proved. In high bandwidth embodiments, full line rate corresponds to rates that exceed 100 Mbytes/s and in some cases 1000 Mbytes/s. Monitoring and intercepting software, alone, is not able to operate on such volumes of data in real-time. An exemplary embodiment comprises: a data delay buffer with multiple delay outputs; a search engine logic for implementing a set of basic search tools that operate in real-time on the data traffic; a programmable gate array; an interface for passing data quickly to software sub-systems; and control means for implementing software control of the operation of the search tools. The programmable gate array inserts the data packets into the delay buffer, extracts them for searching at the delay outputs and formats and schedules the operation of the search engine logic.

Real-time network monitoring and security

A system adapted to process network traffic includes at least one processing engine configured to receive network data being transferred over a network and generate metadata relating to the data. The system includes at least one rule engine configured to receive and process the metadata to generate an output, and at least one selection engine configured to receive and process the rule engine output to determine whether the network data is to be processed by a further component and/or whether the network data is to continue to be transferred over the network. The processing engine, rule engine and selection engine can be implemented in system hardware or firmware, and the further component can be software for execution on another processor.

Processing network traffic

There is provided a hardware device for monitoring and intercepting data packetized data traffic at full line rate. In preferred high bandwidth embodiments, full line rate corresponds to rates that exceed 100 Mbytes/s and in some cases 1000 Mbytes/s. Monitoring and intercepting software, alone, is not able to operate on such volumes of data in real-time. A preferred embodiment comprises: a data delay buffer () with multiple delay outputs (); a search engine logic () for implementing a set of basic search tools that operate in real-time on the data traffic; a programmable gate array (); an interface () for passing data quickly to software sub-systems; and control means for implementing software control of the operation of the search tools. The programmable gate array () inserts the data packets into the delay buffer (), extracts them for searching at the delay outputs and formats and schedules the operation of the search engine logic (). One preferred embodiment uses an IP co-processor as the search engine logic.

A submersible electromagnetic (EM) field generator for seafloor electromagnetic surveying comprising an AC to DC converter operable to generate a DC output from an AC input and a switching module operable to generate a waveform driving signal by selectively switching the DC output. The EM field generator also comprises an antenna that is operable to generate an EM field in response to the waveform driving signal. This design approach of using a switched DC source allows square or rectangular wave EM signals to be generated which have sharp transition characteristics and which are substantially independent of the AC input characteristics.

Electromagnetic surveying

This invention relates to a pumping system. The design of the system is such that bi-directional operation can be achieved using a significantly smaller and hence lighter unit than those currently available. It uses the direction of rotation of the drive shaft to control the opening and closure of the by-pass means for controllably returning the fluid to the first reservoir.
