A disc brake guide assembly having a guide bush, a closure, and a stop. The guide bush may be mountable in a through bore of a support. The closure may be a barrier to the ingress of foreign matter into the through bore. The stop may restrict axial displacement of the guide bush.

Guide assembly

A disc brake having a caliper, a piston, an operating shaft, a wear adjustment mechanism, and a transmission path. The caliper may straddle a rotor and may retain first and second brake pads. The piston may be slidable within the caliper. The operating shaft may apply an actuating force to advance the piston when the operating shaft is actuated. The transmission path of the wear adjustment mechanism may include a one-way clutch.

Disc brake

A disc brake having a caliper, a housing bore, a guide insert, and a piston. The housing bore extends inboard from an outboard face of a housing portion of the caliper. The guide insert may have an inner guide bore and may be mounted within the housing bore. The piston may be slideable within the inner guide bore relative to the guide insert so as to urge a brake pad towards a rotor.

A brake includes a brake shoe moveable between an engaged position and a disengaged position and defining an axis of rotation of an associated brake drum. The brake includes an actuation shaft rotatable about a shaft axis and an actuation device for transferring rotational movement of the actuation shaft into movement of the brake shoe from the disengaged position to the engaged position. The axis of rotation is non-parallel to the shaft axis.

Brake

A slack adjustment system for a disk brake includes a biasing member to adjust slack in a brake system. The biasing member operates independently of pressure applied to a brake actuator. A locking member prevents adjustment when adjustment is not necessary. Release of the locking member allows the biasing member to adjust a resting position of brake pads independent of driver applied brake pressure.

Rapid take up and vibration proof adjuster mechanism

A brake system includes a brake disc having a first disc face and a second disc face on a first side and a second side, respectively, of the brake disc. The brake disc is mounted rotatably fast with but longitudinally slidable on a rotatable shaft. The brake disc is clampable between a first friction surface of a fixed brake pad positioned on the first side of the brake disc and a second friction surface of a moveable brake pad positioned on the second side of the brake disc. The system further includes a disc positioner operable to define a running clearance between the first disc face and the first friction surface. The disc positioner is adjustable to maintain the running clearance as the fixed brake pad wears. A biasing member located on the second side of the brake disc maintains contact between the disc positioner and first disc face of the brake disc.

Disc sliding mechanism

A parking brake assembly for an air actuated disc brake includes an operating shaft for amplifying a force supplied by an air actuator and transmitting the force to brake pads. The operating shaft is pivotable about an axis between a rest position at which a braking force is not applied and an actuated position at which the braking force is applied. An abutment surface on the operating shaft is selectively engageable by a complementary latch of the assembly to retain the operating shaft in the actuated position and thereby apply the parking brake. The abutment surface has a helical configuration.

Parking brake assembly

A control system for a disc brake adjuster mechanism includes a controller and an electric adjuster motor for operable connection to an adjuster mechanism for driving a friction lining towards and away from a disc brake rotor to maintain a predetermined running clearance between the brake rotor and the friction lining when a brake is not applied. The system further includes a brake displacement sensor, and the controller is programmed to determine the brake displacement at which a predetermined load on the friction lining is achieved due to the contact with the disc brake rotor. The predetermined load is determined from a parameter of the electric adjuster motor or adjuster mechanism. The system is programmed to measure the brake displacement during brake release.

Control system and method for a disc brake

A brake actuator assembly includes a sensor mounted to a push rod which is in communication with a transceiver antenna. The sensor provides positional information of the push rod relative to the antenna. A clearance between a friction element and a rotating brake member is determined based on displacement of the push rod and known mechanical relationships within the brake actuator.

Brake pad clearance sensor

A slack adjustment system for a disk brake includes a biasing member to adjust slack in a brake system. The biasing member operates independently of pressure applied to a brake actuator. A locking device secures the adjustment mechanism in place when adjustment is not necessary. Release of the locking member allows the biasing member to adjust the resting position of brake pads independent of driver applied brake pressure.
