A system for fault detection and diagnostics of equipment. The system may also be capable of disaggregation and/or virtual submetering of energy consumption by equipment, such as that of heating, ventilation and air conditioning, lighting, and so forth, in a building. Vibration and current sensors, along with one or more algorithms, may be utilized for fault detection and diagnostics of equipment. Models may be developed to aid in deducing energy consumption of individual components of equipment, and the like, for a building.

Equipment fault detection, diagnostics and disaggregation system

Systems and methods for remotely diagnosing problems across the communications lines of an environmental control network using analog data analysis are disclosed. An illustrative system can include an executive controller, a communications bus including a number of communications lines connecting the controller to one or more slave modules, an analog-to-digital converter, and a diagnostics module for diagnosing problems on one or more of the communications lines from a remote location. The analog input lines for the analog-to-digital converter can be connected to the communications lines and one or more other sources. The diagnostics module can include various diagnostic tools that can be used to diagnose problems occurring across the communications lines as well as to determine other information about the system.

Remote communications diagnostics using analog data analysis

A control apparatus and associated method for a refrigeration system are provided. The control apparatus includes sensors capable of detecting controlled refrigerator zone temperatures and superheat levels of refrigerant vapour exiting an evaporator. The control module receives input from the sensors, compares the input to a determined controlled refrigerator zone set point and a learned superheat level, and generates an output with respect thereto. In particular the output modulates an electronic evaporator pressure regulating (EEPR) valve between an open and a closed position in response to detecting abnormal operation of the thermostatic expansion valve or electronic expansion valve.

Refrigeration control system

Devices and methods for microprocessor supervision in a special purpose computer system are provided. One illustrative embodiment includes a first watchdog timer internal to the microprocessor and a second watchdog timer external to the microprocessor. In some cases, the internal watchdog timer may be initiated prior to or during the operating system startup and the external watchdog timer may be initiated after the operating system is up and running. The internal watchdog timer may have a relatively longer timer duration than the external watchdog timer, but is not required in all embodiments. In some embodiments, the internal watchdog timer may monitor the microprocessor's startup sequence and the internal watchdog timer and/or external watchdog timer may monitor the microprocessor when the operating system is up and running. If the microprocessor faults at any time during startup or while the operating system is up and running, the internal and/or external watchdog timer may trigger a microprocessor reset.
