An airbag module including an inflator and an inflatable airbag is provided. The inflatable airbag may include a first portion comprising at least one fold configured to form at least one vertical pleat, a second portion comprising at least one fold configured to form at least one horizontal pleat and a third portion configured to form a roll.

Airbag device

An airbag device configured to deploy along an interior side of a passenger compartment of a vehicle may include a gas generator and an inflatable airbag. The inflatable airbag may include a plurality of inflatable chambers configured to be inflated by the gas generator. A first inflatable chamber may be tethered to at least a second inflatable chamber by a connection member. The airbag may be configured so that when the airbag is inflated the connection member restrains the separation of the first and second inflatable chambers and forces at least one of the inflatable chambers inboard so that the plurality of inflatable chambers form a convex profile along a plane perpendicular to the side of the passenger compartment.

An airbag module including an inflatable airbag cushion having a first panel and a second panel interconnected by a seam, an inflator for inflating the airbag cushion, and a support having a first end and a second end. The first end is coupled to the first panel at a first joint without the use of stitching and the second end is coupled to the second panel at a second joint without the use of stitching. The first and second joints are provided between the seam and an inflatable chamber formed by the first and second panels.

Airbag module with light weight airbag cushion

A side curtain air bag module for a motor vehicle includes an inflatable cushion, an inflator, and a tether. The inflatable cushion includes an inlet and an inflatable portion, the inflatable portion including an inboard layer and an outboard layer. The inflator is in fluidic communication with the inlet and is configured to inflate the inflatable cushion. The tether includes a first end coupled to the inflatable cushion at a first coupling location on an inboard side of the inflatable cushion. During inflation, the tether is configured to be in tension prior to an upper portion of the inboard layer being in tension, the upper portion of the inboard layer extending generally upward from the first coupling location.

Side-impact airbag module

An airbag is provided which includes at least one fabric panel and a structural seam. The structural seam includes an adhesive but does not include stitching. Such stitching tends to weaken the fabric of airbags and causes a higher denier fabric with higher strength to be used to offset the loss in strength, but this in turn produces an airbag of greater weight due to the high denier fabric. By providing an airbag with a structural seam provided by an adhesive without stitching, an airbag may be lighter and may be inflated in less time.

Airbag

A side airbag for use in a vehicle includes a main chamber extending along a ceiling of the vehicle and configured to restrain a head of a vehicle occupant when the airbag is deployed. The main chamber includes an inboard panel and an outboard panel that are joined together. The airbag also includes a forward chamber extending from the main chamber and configured to restrain at least a portion of the vehicle occupant when the airbag is deployed. The forward chamber at least partially overlaps at least one of the inboard and outboard panels of the main chamber when the airbag is stowed.

Side curtain airbag having a main chamber and an extension chamber

A side airbag extends along a side of an interior roof of a vehicle and is configured to restrain a head of a vehicle occupant when the airbag is deployed. The airbag includes an inboard panel, an outboard panel, and one or more seams configured to join the inboard panel and the outboard panel. The at least one or more seams include first seam portions and second seam portions. The first seam portions are subject to higher stress than the second seam portions when the airbag inflates. The first seam portions are reinforced by sewing or by at least one bead of energy absorbent sealant or adhesive.

A curtain airbag assembly comprises an inflatable curtain airbag configured to prevent egress of an occupant out of a window during a collision or rollover event. When the curtain airbag is inflated, a bottom edge of the curtain airbag extends below a window sill in a vehicle. A distance the inflated curtain airbag extends below the window sill is greater than a radius of curvature of the inflated curtain airbag.

Curtain airbag

An airbag module for use in a vehicle includes a gas generator and a side airbag coupled to the gas generator and configured to deploy upon receiving gas from the gas generator. The side airbag includes a main body extending along a ceiling of the vehicle configured to restrain a head of a vehicle occupant when the airbag is deployed and an extended portion extending from the main body in a downwards direction and configured to restrain at least a portion of a torso of the vehicle occupant when the airbag is deployed. The extended portion is at least partially tucked into the main body and the airbag is folded in a Z pattern and rolled when the airbag is installed. The tuck of the extended portion and the folds of the main body control the deployment angle of the main body and extended portion.

The disclosed airbag device for a vehicle may comprise an airbag and at least one connection member. The airbag may have first and second side surfaces, wherein the first side surface has upper and lower ends. The at least one connection member may connect the lower end of the first side surface to an intermediate position on the first side surface located between the upper and lower ends of the first side surface.

Airbag module

An airbag is provided. The airbag is configured to extend longitudinally along a side of a vehicle and includes a first section configured to inflate in a longitudinal and vertical direction, a second section coupled to the first section and configured to inflate in a longitudinal and vertical direction, an inlet for receiving inflation gas from an inflator, tabs positioned at the top of the airbag for attaching the airbag to a ceiling of the vehicle and chambers positioned between the tabs along the top of the airbag, wherein the chambers stabilize the airbag during deployment.

An airbag device for use with a vehicle door having a window, the airbag device comprising: an inflatable cushion having a predetermined shape, the predetermined shape being configured to have a periphery larger than the periphery of the window of the door when the inflatable cushion is inflated; a backing plate for mounting the inflatable cushion in a desired location, the backing plate providing a reaction surface for a portion of the inflatable cushion as it is being inflated; an inflator for providing an inflation output to the inflatable cushion; and a conduit for providing fluid communication between the inflator and the inflatable cushion, the conduit having a diffuser portion disposed within the inflatable cushion, the diffuser portion having a plurality of diffuser openings for allowing the inflation output to be received within the inflatable cushion, wherein inflation of the inflatable cushion by the inflator will cause portions of the inflatable cushion to overlap the periphery of the window opening such that a retentive covering is provided over the window.
