In accordance with embodiments, there are provided mechanisms and methods for facilitating hybrid solutions for staining of specimens according to one embodiment. In one embodiment and by way of example, a method includes receiving a request for a staining process for a specimen placed on a specimen container that is further placed within a process chamber, where the specimen includes a specimen needing a diagnosis. The method may further include reading or capturing process data relating to the specimen, where the process data includes at least one of basic information and customization instructions. The method may further include facilitating the staining process of the specimen based on the process data.

The directing may be based on information retrieved from the request.

A method for coating a laboratory print media with a photo-sensitive material may include generating, at a printer, a request to label a laboratory media. The laboratory media includes applying multiple coating layers to a laboratory print media to produce a human-readable and machine-readable label within a dedicated area of the print media. The multiple coating layers include at least a material based on photo-sensitive ink that is thermally-activated, and protected by a chemical and physical protective barrier/layer. The method may further include generating, using a printing mechanism, an image within the dedicated area of the print media. The method includes deforming a location within the label recording layer wherein deforming the location within the label recording layer causes a corresponding portion of the label reflecting layer to reflect light at an angle based upon the deforming, and repeating the deforming for a plurality of locations within the label recording layer. The repeated deforming causes a label to be presented on the optical medium.
