Methods, systems, and media to capture a redialing sequence and to redial a phone or similar device are disclosed. Embodiments may capture a dialing sequence of a caller and provide access to the dialing sequence, or redialing sequence, when the caller desires to re-establish a telephone connection. More specifically, embodiments recognize a significant pause in a dialing sequence by a caller and associate the pause with a line event such as a circuit event or an audible event, or a length of time. Some embodiments comprise resource managers and agents of the resource manager may monitor a line, and identify, interpret, and/or route the line events to an application server to capture a redialing sequence or replay the redialing sequence to re-establish a telephone connection. Other embodiments incorporate security measures to protect private data and error detection to determine when a redialing sequence is invalid.

A method of extending telecommunications service, wherein the method is implemented in an extension application server. The extension application server is coupled for data communications to a customer data source and to a telecommunications server. The telecommunications server includes, installed and operating upon the telecommunications server, a multiplicity of telecommunications extension services. The method of extending telecommunications service includes receiving, in the extension application server, from a requesting telecommunications extension service in the telecommunications server, a telecommunications service request; preparing, in dependence upon information from the customer data source, a response to the telecommunications service request; and transmitting the response to the requesting telecommunications extension service.

Telecommunications service extensions

In a virtual machine environment, the invention enables creation of a long running, reusable, virtual machine are disclosed. The environment includes a shared heap where requisite runtime code to bring the virtual machine into a 'ready' mode are loaded, linked, verified, initialized and compiled. Subsequent virtual machines are started and jointly use the shared heap. Applications create their objects in 'private heaps' that are exclusively reserved for the respective applications. At the end of execution of an application, each private heap is reinitialized. Static initializers are run in a persistent area of each private heap. This persistent area is reset to its initial values in between execution of applications. This obviates the need to terminate the virtual machine.

Long running, reusable, extendible, virtual machine

The present invention provides a system and method to reuse code, and thus save code space within a program. A compiler and a linker work together to decide which object code to reuse, for implementation of template classes, and other repetitive code segments. The compiler notes in the object file which functions are generated from template code, or other repetitive types of code. An intelligent linker then attempts to match code, and in the cases where the code matches, simply eliminates multiple versions of the same code by aliasing the function names. The compiler can reduce the amount of linker searching by storing a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) code with each method. By using the system and method of the present invention, code reuse is made possible without sacrificing program efficiency.

System and method for optimizing template object files

A method and system for enhanced locator hit testing and region clipping of windows in a windowing environment of a data processing system is provided. A global hit test data structure is generated having a plurality of compressed scan line data sets that represent scan lines of a display. Each compressed scan line data set contains one or more vectors and a window identifier associated with each vector that describe the window ownership of one or more spans in an associated scan line of the display. A vector identifies a span of the associated scan line, and each window identifier identifies the window that owns the span identified by its associated vector. The enhanced locator hit testing of windows identifies the window that owns a selected pel of the display by accessing the compressed scan line data set that defines the window ownership of the selected pel, determining the vector that contains the selected pel, and retrieving the window identifier associated with the determined vector. The retrieved window identifier is the result of the enhanced locator hit test for the selected pel. The enhanced region clipping of windows performs region clipping by generating a bitmap image having a plurality of pels, each pel corresponding to a pel in the display, and for each pel of the bitmap image, accessing the scan line data set having the vector containing its corresponding pel. It is then determined if the window identifier associated with that vector containing the corresponding pel is a selected window identifier. The region clipping is completed by setting each corresponding pel of the display to the pel of the bitmap image for each pel where it is determined that the window identifier is not the selected window identifier.

A technique is described for maintaining consistent filename conventions between multiple hosts and workstations by providing a table of default parameters for various hosts and workstations and the corresponding filetypes that are accessed to determine the default parameters and filetypes for a given file. A display is also provided to display the name or names of files to be transferred and their destination. The programs which produce these screens also obtain and display default information concerning the files, such as, the file names and the data structures for the files on the destination host computer or workstation. The user can either accept the default information or change it.
