Systems and apparatuses include a first tool defining a first aperture, a second tool defining a second aperture, and a connecting mechanism formed of a resilient material and including a first coupling portion sized to engage the first aperture and a second coupling portion sized to engage the second aperture. The connecting mechanism passes through the first tool and the second tool, and engages the first aperture and the second aperture in a storage configuration. The first tool provides a first mode of operation when used independently, the second tool provides a second mode of operation when used independently, and the tool system provides a third mode of operation when arranged in the storage configuration.

Solid state tool system

A solid state tool system includes a first solid state tool, a second solid state tool, and a third solid state tool. In a first mode, the first solid state tool, the second solid state tool, and the third solid state tool are coupled to one another in a storage configuration. In a second mode, the first solid state tool is used as a tool by itself. In a third mode, the second solid state tool is used as a tool by itself. In a fourth mode, the third solid state tool is used as a tool by itself. In a fifth mode, the first solid state tool is coupled to the third solid state tool and used as a first combination tool. In a sixth mode, the second solid state tool is coupled to the third solid state tool and used as a second combination tool.

A compass assembly includes a base plate having a UTM corner ruler with a first axis and a second axis, an opening extending through the base plate and along the first axis, and a compass supported by the base plate.

A flashlight includes a housing that extends from a first end to a second end, a light source provided at the first end of the housing, a rechargeable power supply electrically coupled to the light source, a generator electrically coupled to the rechargeable power supply, and a hand crank coupled to the generator, the hand crank including a base and an arm, the hand crank movable between a storage position and a cranking position. The base is rotatably coupled to the second end of the housing. The arm is translatable relative to the housing between a retracted position and an extended position such that when the arm is in the extended position, the arm is pivotable relative to the base between a translation position in which the arm is substantially parallel to the housing axis and a fixed position in which the arm is substantially perpendicular to the housing axis.

A flashlight includes a battery compartment configured to alternatively receive a rechargeable battery or a non-rechargeable battery, a battery-type indicator located within the battery compartment, the indicator movable between a forward position and a rear position, wherein the indicator is biased to the rear position, and a switch that is closed by the indicator in the forward position, wherein the closed switch allows a battery inserted in the battery compartment to be recharged. With a rechargeable battery inserted in the battery compartment, the rechargeable battery engages the indicator and moves the indicator to the forward position, thereby closing the switch and allowing the rechargeable battery to be recharged while in the battery compartment. With a non-rechargeable battery inserted in the battery compartment, the indicator is in the rear position and the switch is not closed, thereby preventing the non-rechargeable battery from being recharged while in the battery compartment.
