A method of powering an audio output device of a computer system, by determining whether a passive or active audio output device is connected to an audio output jack of the computer system and, based on this determination, providing an appropriate power level to the audio output jack. For example, if the determination is made that a passive audio output device is connected to the audio output jack, then a 3-watt power signal is applied to the audio output jack, but if the determination is made that an active audio output device is connected to the audio output jack, then a &#xbc;-watt power signal is applied to the audio output jack. The type of audio output device present may be determined by sensing an impedance at the audio output jack. This sensing may be performed by comparing a load voltage associated with the impedance to a reference voltage. The output of a switch device (multiplexer) having a first input from an AC97 audio codec and headphone amplifier and a second input from a passive speaker amplifier is selectively controlled by the sensing circuit.

Method and system for automatically detecting and powering PC speakers

A portable system that provides audio to video displays or monitors includes a bezel with integrated speakers and integrated channels that slide onto the bezel of the monitors. The bezel with integrated speakers does not increase the lateral footprint of the monitor.

Slide-on speaker assembly

A multi-port buffer stores digitized image and/or audio information from a video camera and transfers the stored image information to a plurality of output channels. Digitized input data is passed through a crossbar switch and stored in a random access memory (RAM). The image data is retrieved from RAM and passed the crossbar switch to one of a plurality of first-in, first-out (FIFO) registers. Raster scan lines are passed from the FIFO registers to corresponding output channels. The order and rate of writing to RAM and reading out to the FIFO registers is controlled by an asynchronous queuing arbiter. If one of the output channels is slower than the others or operates at a variable clock speed, the asynchronous queuing arbiter changes the order in which the FIFO registers are filled to accommodate that output channel. Should one of the output channels fail, the bus request for the corresponding FIFO register is disabled, thereby skipping the failed channel.

Multi-channel image array buffer and switching network

An apparatus and method electronically registers or aligns ideal raster data to real raster data for subsequent processes such as inspection systems and image processing systems. The electronic image registration system receives ideal and real images in scrolling buffers wide enough to hold the width of the image and high enough to hold the difference in a skewed image. In other words, the real and ideal upper corners must be contained within the buffers for any possible kind of misalignment or distortion. Each buffer has a selector to randomly access frames of image in the vertical direction. Each buffer image frame is moved horizontally out of its lower swath and into its new position in the next upper swath. Horizontal movement of each buffer is independent, such that adjustable sequential access in the horizontal direction is available. The real image stream buffer selector addressing and clocking are held fixed during the registration phase, while the ideal image stream buffer selector address and clocking are in constant adjustment.
