A system and method for detecting a phase-to-ground fault in an AC electrical machine operates to receive measurements of three-phase voltages and currents provided to the AC electrical machine, compute at least one of a zero sequence component and a negative sequence component of voltage and current from the three-phase voltages and currents, and calculate a fault severity index (FSI) based on the zero or negative sequence component of voltage and current, so as to identify a phase-to-ground fault in the AC electrical machine. Calculating the FSI further includes determining a total value of the zero or negative sequence current, determining a noise-contributed value of the zero or negative sequence current included in the total value, determining a compensated value of the zero or negative sequence current based on the total value and the noise-contributed value, and calculating the FSI based on the compensated value.

System and method for detecting stator faults in AC electrical machines

A portable tether device for configuring and/or monitoring an isolated industrial product includes an outer housing defining a chamber, a magnet positioned within the chamber to provide for magnetic attachment of the portable tether device to a housing panel, and an inductive receive coil positioned within the chamber and adjacent an underside of the outer housing, the inductive receive coil operable with an external inductive charging coil to provide inductive powering to the portable tether device. The portable tether device also includes a communication circuit positioned within the chamber and powered by the inductive receive coil, with the communication circuit further including transmit and receive optical components that provide light-based communication between the portable tether device and the isolated industrial product and wireless communication circuitry configured to transmit and receive wireless signals to and from the portable tether device.

A controlled-power RJ45 socket includes a housing having a cavity to receive an RJ45 plug. The socket further includes electrical contacts positioned in the cavity and that come in contact with electrical contacts of the RJ45 plug when the RJ45 plug is plugged into the RJ45 socket. A switch is positioned to disconnect the power to the electrical contacts of the RJ45 socket before the electrical contacts of the RJ45 plug are physically detached from the electrical contacts of the RJ45 socket during a de-mating of the RJ45 plug from the RJ45 socket.

Power over ethernet connection with power control

An improved overload relay includes a number of current transformers that draw power from a circuit it protects to power itself. The current transformers charge a capacitor which powers a processor and which can energize a solenoid to initiate the interruption of the circuit. The overload relay further includes a capacitor analysis circuit which detects an operational parameter of the capacitor and enables a processor to determine when the energy storage capability of the capacitor has dropped to a predetermined threshold. In the event of such a determination, the overload relay can perform any of a number of actions.

Apparatus for energizing a protective device, and associated method

An input circuit includes an interface structured to output a logic signal from an alternating current signal of a pair of elongated conductors. A load is switchable to the elongated conductors. A processor outputs a control signal to switch the load to the elongated conductors asynchronously with respect to the alternating current signal for a first predetermined time, inputs the logic signal, determines if the input logic signal is active a plurality of times during the first predetermined time and responsively sets a first state of the alternating current signal, and, otherwise, sets an opposite second state of the alternating current signal, and delays for a second predetermined time, which is longer than the first predetermined time, for the opposite second state before repeating the output, and, otherwise, delays for a third predetermined time, which is longer than the second predetermined time, for the first state before repeating the output.

A wellness circuit is for a rotating electrical apparatus having a rated current and being operatively associated with an electrical switching, control, protection or monitoring apparatus structured to provide a number of currents and a number of voltages of the rotating electrical apparatus. The wellness circuit includes a current sensor scaled to the rated current and structured to provide a notch current signal representative of one of the number of currents; an interface to the electrical switching, control, protection or monitoring apparatus, the interface providing the number of currents and the number of voltages; and a processor employing the number of currents and the number of voltages from the interface and the notch current signal to determine wellness of the rotating electrical apparatus. The wellness circuit is structured to be separate from or added to the electrical switching, control, protection or monitoring apparatus.
