An engine assembly may include a cylinder head, an intake manifold assembly, first and second vanes, and an actuation mechanism. The first and second vanes may be rotatably coupled to the intake manifold assembly. The first vane may be located within an outlet of a first intake passage and the second vane may be located within an outlet of a second intake passage. The first and second vanes may be displaceable from an open position to a closed position. The first vane may extend along a wall defining the first intake passage when in the open position and the second vane may extend along a wall defining the second intake passage when in the open position. The actuation mechanism may be coupled to the first and second vanes to rotate the first and second vanes between the open and closed positions.

Engine intake air flow control assembly

An engine includes air-assisted fuel injection including fuel injectors supplying fuel through cylinder head-mounted air injectors. An internal air passage in the cylinder head connects with internal air pockets receiving the injectors and supplying them with air. Seals on the air injectors prevent air leakage from the air pockets. The air temperature in the head is affected by an adjacent coolant passage.

Engine with air-assisted fuel injection and engine integrated air feed

The air/fuel ratio of the combustion mixture in the cylinders of an engine is sensed and the sensed air/fuel ratio is controlled to a predetermined scheduled air/fuel ratio by controlling the amount of exhaust gases recirculated. When the exhaust gas recirculated is substantially zero, the air/fuel ratio is thereafter closed loop adjusted to a predetermined scheduled minimum air/fuel ratio when the sensed air/fuel ratio is less than the minimum and when the sensed air/fuel ratio is greater than the minimum while the operator command is at a maximum to thereby provide precise fuel limiting at a predetermined fuel limit schedule.

Diesel engine closed loop air/fuel ratio control

Fuel delivery valving operatively mounted in an axially extending center bore of a high pressure pump rotor. The valve axially shifts between an open position in which a charge of fuel generated by the pump is transmitted as a pressure wave to a fuel injector nozzle and a closed position in which the pump charging chamber is sealed from the injection line and the injection line is vented to low pressure so that secondary pressure waves reflecting from the injector nozzle will be routed to the low pressure line for dissipation therein rather than rebounding from the delivery valve. This improves engine operation efficiency and eliminates seocndary injection of fuel by the injector nozzle and high hydrocarbon and smoke emissions. One embodiment has a fuel delivery valve operatively mounted in each discharge fitting of a hydraulic head assembly of the fuel injection pump.
