A radio access system receives packets from a local source of streaming media content via a local connection and from remote packet sources via a remote network. The radio access system communicates with a subscriber station via an air interface that includes an uplink and a downlink. A packet classifier in the radio access system maps packets having the subscriber station's IP address as destination address to the subscriber station's downlink. The subscriber station communicates with a content controller via the remote network to request selected streaming media content. The content controller instructs the radio access system to convey the selected streaming media content from the local source to the subscriber station. In response, the packet classifier maps the packets containing the selected streaming media content to a downlink (either the original downlink or a new one) for transmission to the subscriber station.

Embodiments disclosed herein provide systems and methods for alleviating time division multiplexing interference between multiple access nodes. In a particular embodiment, a method provides identifying interference between a first and a second wireless access node at a wireless communication device, wherein the first and second wireless access nodes exchange wireless communications using a time division multiplexing wireless protocol on a first carrier frequency. The method further provides determining an uplink/downlink configuration for the time division multiplexing wireless protocol of the first and second wireless access nodes that does not cause the interference. The method also provides exchanging the wireless communications at the first and second wireless access nodes using the uplink/downlink configuration.

A media service controller controls how one or more base stations transmit media content from one or more media servers to mobile stations. The media service controller may control whether a mobile station receives media content via a unicast or a multicast connection, e.g., based on a predefined schedule and/or on whether other mobile stations served by the same base station are receiving the same media content. The media service controller may provide a content discovery service through which a first media server may determine whether other media servers are providing the same media content. The media service controller may facilitate changing a source of media content received by a mobile station, e.g., by changing the source from a first media server to a second media server when the mobile station moves from an area associated with the first media server to an area associated with the second media server.

Before a WiMAX-equipped device is distributed to an end-user, the manufacturer or distributor of the WiMAX-equipped device will record in the device a set of data that describes characteristics (e.g., type, features, capabilities, and limitations) of the device. When the end-user powers on the device or otherwise brings the device within the coverage of a service provider's WiMAX base station, the device will then acquire radio connectivity, typically with the service provider authenticating the device's WiMAX chipset. Thereafter, the device will engage in a first-time activation/service-provisioning session with a system operated by the service provider, and during that session, the device will provide the system with its device-characteristics data and the service provider will use that device-characteristics data as a basis to customize provisioning of service for the device based on the device's features and capabilities.

Methods and computer-readable media are provided to select the optimal route for communicating a signaling message in a telecommunications networking environment. The method includes receiving a signaling message at a sending proxy that is responsible for sending the signaling message to its destination. To determine the best route, the sending proxy inspect its dynamic routing table to identify one or more potential routes that can be used to communicate the signaling message to its destination. The optimal route is determined by a numeric value, which may be based on one or more of a cost, the relationship between service providers, quality, or the like. Once the optimal route is determined, it is communicated from the sending proxy to the receiving proxy, often through one or more intermediary proxies.

A mobile node using Mobile IP is served by a network access server (NAS), wherein the NAS has allocated a care-of address for the mobile node and a home agent has a mobility binding that associates the care-of address with the mobile node's home address. When the mobile node's care-of address is no longer valid, an intermediary server receives a notification messages from a first network element (e.g., the NAS or home agent) and sends a resource management message to a second network element (e.g., the home agent or NAS). In response to the resource management message, the second network element clears at least one resource associated with the mobile node. For example, the NAS may de-allocate the care-of address and the home agent may clear the mobility binding.

A method for establishing multicast PoC communication is disclosed. To establish multicast PoC communication, a multicast-join process will be coupled with a PoC session setup process, and the PoC server will function as a multicast content server, to multicast PoC communications to the PoC session participants. For example, when a party initiates a PoC session, the PoC server may acquire a multicast flow-ID from a multicast session manager, and the PoC server may convey that multicast flow-ID to each participant within the PoC session setup signaling. Upon receipt of the multicast flow-ID, each participant may then engage in signaling with the multicast session manager, to join the associated multicast group. And the multicast session manager may direct the PoC server to begin multicasting the associated flow to the group members, which the PoC server will do once it begins receiving PoC bearer data from one of the PoC session participants.

A mobile node that is in communication with a correspondent node via a home agent initiates a process for establishing a route optimized mode of communication between the mobile node and the correspondent node. The mobile node sends a first initiating message to the home agent for delivery to the correspondent node and sends a second initiating message directly to the correspondent node. The mobile node secures the first initiating message by including an initiating-message authentication code that can be validated by the home agent or by an authentication server. The correspondent node responds by sending a first responsive message to the home agent for delivery to the mobile node and by sending a second responsive message directly to the mobile node. The home agent secures the first responsive message by adding a responsive-message authentication code that can be validated by the mobile node.

A method and system for selectively including a device-ID within a Mobile-IP registration request. A foreign agent, AAA server or other entity decides, based at least in part on a user-ID carried in a Mobile-IP registration request from a mobile node, whether to insert a device-ID of the mobile node into the registration request. In response to a decision to insert the device-ID, the foreign agent or another entity inserts the device-ID into the registration request and sends the request, including the device-ID, along to a Mobile-IP home agent.

A method and system for facilitating end-to-end quality of service in a 3G packet data network. A packet-data session is set up between a mobile station and a packet-data network, via a base station and a packet data serving node (PDSN). The base station manages quality of service for the session as it passes over the air interface, and the PDSN manages quality of service for the session as it passes into the packet-data network. The PDSN translates between quality of service on the packet-data network and quality of service on the air interface, and the PDSN and base station communicate the quality of service information, so that both the base station and PDSN can work to set up consistent levels of quality of service on their respective links.
