A projection display is provided according to one embodiment of the invention. The projection display includes a hollow case including a window opening, a screen formed on one portion of the case, and at least one mirror internally mounted to the case at a position to reflect light from the window opening to the screen. The projection display further includes a window mounted in the window opening. The projection display further includes an optical engine mounted to the case. The optical engine is positioned over the window and oriented so that emitted light from the optical engine is directed onto the at least one mirror. The projection display further includes a diaphragm internally attached to the case and dividing an internal volume of the case into a first portion and a second portion. The projection display further includes a gas filling the second portion of the case at an overpressure and a vent communicating with the first portion of the case and communicating with an external environment. The vent at least partially equalizes the overpressure of the second portion with a pressure of the external environment.

An optical component mounting apparatus for use in an aircraft for maintaining alignment of the optical components during use of the aircraft, the apparatus including an &ldquo;L&rdquo; shaped frame and a plurality of &ldquo;L&rdquo; shaped mounts, for holding the optical components, in adjustable positions by use of bolts extending through slots, oriented in three orthogonal directions, in the frame and the mounts.

System and method for providing a ruggedized optical mounting system for use on aircraft

An assembly for providing an adjustable optical train is disclosed. An adjustable optical train is comprised of a plate having a channel formed therein. A submount suitable for mounting an object such as an optical component (e.g., holographic medium, lens, prism, etc.) engages the channel so the submount is suitable for slidable movement along the channel. In an exemplary embodiment, the submount further comprises a fastener. The fastener may include an appendage for engaging the channel and a holder coupled to the appendage. The holder is suitable for anchoring the appendage thereby securing the appendage to the channel thereby securing the submount to the plate.

Adjustable optical train

An assembly for providing microradian adjustment of the alignment of objects such as optical devices is disclosed. The microradian adjustment assembly is comprised of a mounting plate suitable for mounting an object and a torque adjustment assembly. A circular channel is formed in the plate so as to define a disk area surrounded by a deflection area. The torque adjustment assembly torsionally deforms the deflection area, rotating the disk area with respect to the mounting plate. This rotation is utilized to provide microradian adjustment of the alignment of the object.

An aircraft ice detector system includes a radar system. The radar system provides a radar signal to a surface of the aircraft and determines whether ice is present based upon a reflected radar signal. The system can determine the type and the quantity of ice present based upon the reflected radar signal. The system can be mounted within a wing or on an external surface of the aircraft. The radar signal is preferably a low power signal.

Newton rings on a liquid crystal display (LCD) are avoided by connecting the frame of the LCD to the chassis without deflecting the frame outward toward the chassis. A first connecting mechanism coupled to the frame and to the chassis at least partially secures the frame to the chassis by prohibiting movement of the frame relative to the chassis in a first direction, but allows at least partial movement of the frame relative to the chassis in a second direction non-parallel to the first direction. A second connecting mechanism coupled to the frame and to the chassis at least partially secures the frame to the chassis by prohibiting movement of the frame relative to the chassis in the second direction, but allows at least partial movement of the frame relative to the chassis in the first direction. In combination, the coupling mechanisms prohibit movement of the frame relative to the chassis in both the first and second directions.
