Filter housings that have housing wall surface irregularities are described. The surface irregularities are positioned on the inner walls of the housings and/or axial ends of the housing walls. The surface irregularities may be, for example, grooves, ribs, bumps, and the like. The surface irregularities provide an engine integrity protection (EIP) feature by preventing non-approved replacement filter elements from forming seals against alternative sealing surfaces of the housing wall inner surfaces or axial ends.

Air filter arrangement

Air induction systems are for an internal combustion engine. The air induction systems comprise an air intake plenum that conducts intake airflow to an air cleaner for cleaning prior to combustion in the internal combustion engine. The air intake plenum is movable with respect to the air cleaner between an open position separated from the air cleaner and a closed position connected to the air cleaner. A bellows connects the air intake plenum to the air cleaner when the air intake plenum is in the closed position. The bellows has an upstream first end that seals with the air intake plenum and a downstream second end that seals with the air cleaner. A spring is disposed in the bellows. The spring applies a biasing pressure on the bellows that encourages sealing between the bellows and at least one of the air intake plenum and the air cleaner when the air intake plenum is in the closed position. A shield is provided that blocks inflow of rain water to the bellows when the air intake plenum is in the open position.

Air induction systems for internal combustion engines

An axial flow air filter system is described. The system includes an axial flow filter element having a filter media. The filter media includes an inlet face and an outlet face, the inlet face spaced apart from the outlet face. The axial flow filter element includes an upper support ring adjacent to the inlet face of the filter media. The upper support ring circumscribes the filter media and supports an upper seal. The upper seal forms a seal with a housing when the filter element is received in the housing. The axial flow filter element further includes a lower support ring adjacent to the outlet face of the filter media. The lower support ring circumscribes the filter media. In some arrangements, the lower support ring does not include a seal.

Axial flow air filter element

Air induction systems are for an internal combustion engine. The air induction systems comprise an air intake plenum that conducts intake airflow to an air cleaner for cleaning prior to combustion in the internal combustion engine. A filter is provided by pleated filter media having a plurality of pleats defined by wall segments extending axially along an axial direction along an axis and extending transversely along a transverse direction between first and second sets of pleat tips at first and second sets of axially extending bend lines. The pleated filter media spans laterally along a lateral span along a lateral direction, with the wall segments being spaced from each other by lateral gaps. The pleats have a pleat depth along the transverse direction along the wall segments between the first and second sets of pleat tips. The pleat depth varies as the pleated filter media spans laterally along the lateral direction.

An in-line filter assembly includes an inlet duct housing, an intermediate housing, and an outlet duct housing, and seals a filter element in the intermediate housing and facilitates removal and replacement thereof.

In-line filter and service method

A uniform sealing force in an air filter assembly apparatus includes a housing having a channel with a plurality of incline portions and a plurality of land portions. The apparatus also includes an opening configured to receive a filter element assembly having a gasket flange, and a lid configured to cover the opening. The lid is coupled with at least one bayonet extending outward from the lid. The bayonet includes a plurality of incline portions and a plurality of land portions, the incline and land portions of the bayonet are configured to interface with the incline and land portions of the channel and provide a uniform axial sealing force on the gasket flange.

A filter has multiple pleated filter elements having axially extending channels having a transverse pleat channel height and a lateral channel width. The pleated filter elements have different channel heights.
