Described is a solid phase benzopyran composition comprising predominately 1,3,4,6,7,8-hexahydro-4,6,6,7,8,8-hexamethylcyclopenta[G]-2-benzopyran and at least one other benzopyran compound. The novel compositions are used in augmenting, enhancing and/or imparting aromas in to consumable materials such as perfume compositions, perfumed articles including soaps, detergents, fabric softener compositions, fabric softener articles, fragranced candles, cosmetics, hair preparations, perfumed polymers and colognes. Also described is a process for producing the solid phase benzopyran compositions.

Solid phase benzopyran composition, process for preparing same and organoleptic uses thereof

Described is a bioprocess for the high-yield production of food flavor-acceptable jasmonic acid and methyl jasmonate, as well as a novel jasmonic acid isomer produced thereby and organoleptic uses thereof. The process yields at least 5% of the 'cis' isomer defined according the structure: (wherein R is hydrogen or methyl) or at least 5% of the 'cis' isomer defined according to the structure: (wherein R is hydrogen or methyl). Compositions containing at least 98% of the isomer having the structure: with an optical rotation (&#x3b1;) of +58&#xb0; are novel. Compositions containing at least 98% of the isomer having the structure: with an optical rotation (&#x3b1;) of +58&#xb0; are also novel. The process of our invention comprises the cultivation under aerobic condition of one or more specific strain ofin a nutrient medium followed either by (1) isolation of the jasmonic acid product or (2) esterification of the jasmonic acid to form methyl jasmonate followed by the isolation of the methyl jasmonate and novel products produced by such process.

A novel compound 4H-indeno[4,5-D]-1,3-dioxole, 3A,5,6,7,8,8B-hexahydro-2,2,6,6,7,8,8-heptamethyl is dislosed as well as the use of the compound as a fragrance chemical. The fragrance compound is suitable for use in creating fragrances, and scents in items such as perfumes, colognes and personal care products.
