In one embodiment, a seal includes a body of resilient material having a generally cylindrical opening therein. A first, smaller diameter part of the opening is defined by a cylindrical inner surface having a plurality of bumps protruding therefrom, and a second, larger diameter part of the opening is defined by an inwardly bulging sidewall. In another embodiment, an assembly includes: a boss protruding from a boss base; an elastomeric seal comprising a collar and a flexible collar base supporting the collar on the boss base, the collar having an opening therein closely receiving the boss and the collar base configured to flex when compressed along the longitudinal axis and rebound back toward an original position when uncompressed; and a plurality of elastomeric bumps on the collar and/or on the boss, the bumps protruding into the opening such that the collar is supported laterally around the boss on the bumps.

In one embodiment, a fluid ejector assembly includes: a bay for holding a detachable fluid container that includes a fluid outlet at a forward part of the container; a fluid ejector; a fluid inlet at a forward part of the bay through which fluid from the outlet of a fluid container installed in the bay may pass to the fluid ejector; and a stationary guide configured to block an improper installation of a fluid container into the bay without also blocking a proper installation of the fluid container into the bay.

A fluid interconnect for a fluid ejection system includes a fluid port having a fluid passage formed therethrough, and a filter provided at an end of the fluid port such that fluid passing through the fluid port passes through the filter to the fluid passage, wherein the filter is secured to an end surface and a peripheral surface of the fluid port.

A fluid cartridge for a fluid-jet precision-dispensing device includes a supply of fluid, a fluid interconnect element, and a feature. The fluid interconnect element establishes a fluid interconnection with a corresponding fluid interconnect element of a bracket upon mating of the fluid cartridge with the bracket. The fluid interconnection permits the fluid from the fluid cartridge to be supplied to the bracket. The feature is adapted to physically clear riser surfaces of the bracket upon mating of the fluid cartridge with the bracket so that the fluid cartridge properly mates with the bracket. The riser surfaces of the bracket at least substantially reduce a likelihood of damage to the corresponding fluid interconnect element by the fluid cartridge during mating of the fluid cartridge with the bracket.

An ink delivery system having at least one off-axis ink supply container and an on-axis printhead assembly. The on-axis printhead assembly includes at least one reservoir and a corresponding standpipe separated by a particle filter. At least one tube connects the off-axis ink supply container to the on-axis printhead assembly. A first valve is configured to selectively open a flow path between the tube and the reservoir. A second valve is configured to selectively open a flow path between the standpipe and the tube.

Ink delivery system and methods for improved printing

An inkjet pen includes a standpipe plenum, a printhead in fluid communication with the standpipe plenum, and a detector for detecting the amount of air in the standpipe plenum. A printing system including such an inkjet pen further includes structure for removing air from the standpipe plenum. Air is removed from the standpipe plenum when the amount of air detected in the standpipe plenum reaches a predetermined level.

A fluid reservoir for use in a printing device includes a housing that, at least partially, forms at least one chamber therein. The chamber is configured to hold a fluid. A bubble port leads through housing into a first region of chamber and fluidically couples chamber to atmospheric gas external to housing. A bubble director arranged within chamber is configured to direct at least one bubble of gas from first region to a second region of chamber. The bubble is formed within fluid within first region upon gas entering chamber through bubble port.

A method for detecting a clog in a suspect portion of an ink conduit of an ink delivery system, includes the steps of pumping a slug of ink of a known volume into the ink conduit, attempting to pump the slug past the suspect portion, and detecting the presence of ink at a position beyond the suspect portion.

An ink delivery system having at least one off-axis ink supply container and an on-axis printhead assembly. The printhead assembly includes at least one reservoir and a corresponding standpipe separated by a particle filter. At least one tube connects the off-axis ink supply container to the printhead assembly. A first valve is configured to selectively open a flow path between the tube and the reservoir. A second valve is configured to selectively open a flow path between the standpipe and the tube.

A method of manufacturing a fluidic MEMS package includes attaching a cover plate with a plurality of openings to a substrate with a plurality of bond rings with breaches such that the cover plate, the substrate and the bond rings define a plurality of respective inner cavities. The cover plate, the substrate and the breaches define a plurality of respective fill ports. The method also includes filling the inner cavities with fluid, sealing the fluid in the inner cavities, and singulating a plurality of MEMS packages from the substrate.

Fluidic MEMS device

A universal cartridge magazine system and method are disclosed for storing cartridge systems. The cartridge magazine system comprising a pivoted member, a flag positioner and a sleeve designed to accept the cartridge system, the sleeve having a first side. The pivoted member has a leg and an arm, the leg having a slanted surface, wherein the pivoted member is designed to allow full insertion of the cartridge system in the sleeve if the cartridge system is inserted in a correct orientation, and wherein the pivoted member prevents full insertion of the cartridge system in the sleeve if the cartridge system is not in the correct orientation. The flag positioner comprising a support arm, the support arm having a flag extending outside of the sleeve, wherein the flag is designed to be located at a first position if the sleeve does not contain a fully inserted cartridge system, a second position if the sleeve contains a fully inserted first type of linear tape cartridge system, and a third position if the sleeve contains a fully inserted second type of linear tape cartridge system.

An intrusion monitor for a media storage system. One embodiment of the intrusion monitor comprises a flag operatively associated with at least one storage compartment in the media storage system, the flag moving between a first position and a second position to indicate the state of at least one storage compartment. A sensor provided in the media storage system, the sensor detecting the position of the flag to determine the state of the at least one storage compartment.

A system and method are disclosed which utilize a retaining mechanism to retain a first part against a second part in a manner that supplements or supplants use of adhesive. A retaining mechanism retains a first part against the surface of a second part, wherein the second part comprises a rib that is spatially separated from and oriented over such surface. The retaining mechanism is arranged tightly between the rib and the first part to impart force against the first part to retain it against the surface of the second part. In one implementation, the retaining mechanism is utilized to secure an illuminator cable against the surface of a lid assembly within a media picker device. For instance, a retaining mechanism may be arranged to fit tightly between a rib of the lid assembly and an illuminator cable to retain such illuminator cable against the surface of the lid assembly.
