A measurement system is disclosed and includes a light source, a receiver, a measurement subject, and a reflector. The reflector is disposed on an opposite side of the measurement subject than are the light source and the receiver.

An optical construction includes a lens film having outermost first and second major surfaces. The first major surface includes a plurality of microlenses. A multilayer mask having an average thickness of less than about 0.5 times an average focal length of the microlenses and an optical density of greater than about 2 is disposed on the second major surface. The multilayer mask includes polymeric first and second mask layers where each of the first and second mask layers has an optical density of greater than about 0.3. The multilayer mask defines a plurality of laser-ablated through openings therein that are aligned to the microlenses in a one-to-one correspondence. An optical transmittance of the optical construction as a function of the incident angle has a transmitted peak having a peak transmittance T1 and a corresponding full width at 20 percent of maximum W1, where T1/W1≥2.4%/degree.

Optical construction including lens film and multilayer mask

Various embodiments of an optical construction and an electronic device that includes such optical construction are disclosed. The optical construction includes a lens film having an outermost structured first major surface and an opposing outermost substantially planar second major surface. The structured first major surface includes a plurality of microlenses. The optical construction also includes a mask disposed adjacent to the second major surface of the lens film and includes a plurality of laser-ablated openings disposed through the mask. The openings are aligned to the microlenses in a one-to-one correspondence. The mask further includes a UV-cured polymer material and an optically absorptive material.

An optical system includes a lens layer including a plurality of microlenses arranged along orthogonal first and second directions, and at least one optically opaque mask layer spaced apart from the lens layer and defining a plurality of through openings therein arranged along the first and second directions. There is a one-to-one correspondence between the microlenses and the openings, such that for each microlens, the microlens and corresponding openings are substantially centered on a straight line making a same oblique angle with the lens layer. An optical layer can include the lens layer and the optically opaque mask layer embedded in the optical layer.

An optical system is disclosed and includes an optical sensor, a plurality of photosensitive pixels disposed on the optical sensor, a wavelength-selective optical filter in optical communication with the photosensitive pixels, the wavelength-selective optical filter being disposed remotely from the optical sensor, an area disposed in the wavelength-selective optical filter, the area having a transmission spectrum different from a transmission spectrum of a portion of the wavelength-selective optical filter not in the area and a reflector, the wavelength-selective optical filter and a measurement subject each being disposed between the reflector and the optical sensor along an optical path.

An optical element includes a porous layer with a network of a plurality of interconnected voids. The porous layer is optically diffusive to at least one wavelength of light when the network of interconnected voids is substantially free of fluid. The porous layer of the optical element undergoes a detectable optical change upon fluid ingress into the network or egress from the network of interconnected voids.

Urea (multi)-(meth)acrylate (multi)-silane precursor compounds, synthesized by reaction of (meth)acrylated materials having isocyanate functionality with aminosilane compounds, either neat or in a solvent, and optionally with a catalyst, such as a tin compound, to accelerate the reaction. Compositions of matter described as urea (multi)-urethane (meth)acrylate-silanes having the general formula R&#x2014;NH&#x2014;C(O)&#x2014;N(R)&#x2014;R&#x2014;[O&#x2014;C(O)NH&#x2014;R], or R&#x2014;NH&#x2014;C(O)&#x2014;N(R)&#x2014;R&#x2014;[O&#x2014;C(O)NH&#x2014;R]. Also described are articles including a substrate, a base (co)polymer layer on a major surface of the substrate, an oxide layer on the base (co)polymer layer; and a protective (co)polymer layer on the oxide layer, the protective (co)polymer layer including the reaction product of at least one urea (multi)-urethane (meth)acrylate-silane precursor compound. The substrate may be a (co)polymer film or an electronic device such as an organic light emitting device, electrophoretic light emitting device, liquid crystal display, thin film transistor, or combination thereof. Methods of making such urea (multi)-urethane (meth)acrylate-silane precursor compounds, and their use in composite films and electronic devices are also described. Methods of using multilayer composite films as barrier films in articles selected from solid state lighting devices, display devices, and photovoltaic devices are also described.

Urea (multi)-urethane (meth)acrylate-silane compositions and articles including the same

A process for making a barrier film having a substrate, a base polymer layer applied to the substrate, an oxide layer applied to the base polymer layer, and a top coat polymer layer applied to the oxide layer is provided. An optional inorganic layer can be applied over the top coat polymer layer. The top coat polymer layer is formed by vapor depositing and curing cyclic aza-silane and acrylate monomer. The use of a silane co-deposited with an acrylate to form the top coat layer of the barrier films provide for enhanced resistance to moisture and improved peel strength adhesion of the top coat layer to the underlying barrier stack layers.

Moisture resistant coating for barrier films

A barrier film including a substrate; a base polymer layer adjacent to the substrate; an oxide layer adjacent to the base polymer layer; a adhesion-modifying layer adjacent to the oxide layer; and a top coat polymer layer adjacent to the adhesion-modifying layer. An optional inorganic layer can be applied over the top coat polymer layer. The inclusion of a adhesion-modifying layer provides for enhanced resistance to moisture and improved peel strength adhesion of the top coat polymer layer to the underlying barrier stack layers.

Photovoltaic devices with encapsulating barrier film

A barrier film including a substrate, a base (co)polymer layer applied on a major surface of the substrate, an oxide layer applied on the base (co)polymer layer, and a protective (co)polymer layer applied on the oxide layer. The protective (co)polymer layer is formed as the reaction product of a first (meth)acryloyl compound and a (meth)acryl-silane compound derived from a Michael reaction between a second (meth)acryloyl compound and an aminosilane. The first and second (meth)acryloyl compounds may be the same. In some embodiments, a multiplicity of alternating layers of the oxide layer and the protective (co)polymer layer may be used. An oxide layer can be applied over the top protective (co)polymer layer. The barrier films provide, in some embodiments, enhanced resistance to moisture and improved peel strength adhesion of the protective (co)polymer layer(s) to the underlying layers. A process of making, and methods of using the barrier film are also described.
