An apparatus for separating an analyte from a test sample, such as bacteria from blood components, based on their dielectric properties, localizing or condensing the analyte, flushing substantially all remaining waste products from the test sample, and detecting low concentrations of the analyte. The module array includes a plurality of microfluidic channels with connecting microfluidic waste channels for directing undesired material away from the analyte. An electric field is applied causing a positive dielectrophoretic force to the analyte to capture the analyte. The electric field is applied to at least one electrode having a plurality of concentric rings or concentric arcs extending radially outwards from a center point, electrically connected to a voltage source such that when voltage is applied to the at least one electrode, the concentric rings or concentric arcs alternate in voltage potential.

Apparatus for pathogen detection

The present invention relates to uniform nanostructure biosensors and methods of calibrating the response of nanostructure biosensors. The invention overcomes device to device variability that has made quantitative detection difficult. The described biosensors have uniform characteristics that allow for more reliable comparison across devices. The methods of the invention comprise normalizing the initial current rate, as measured by the nanostructure biosensor following the addition of an analyte, to device characteristics of the biosensor. The device characteristics of the biosensor which can be used to normalize the response include baseline current and transconductance, Calibration of responses allows for the generation of calibration curves for use in all devices to quantitatively detect an analyte, without the need for individual device calibration.

Calibration of nanostructure sensors

The present invention relates to a device and method for determining the presence of a specific compound in solution. The device includes a nanosensor having an electrically conducting pathway between at least a first and second contact. The device also includes a first receptor, suitable for binding a specific compound in the solution, attached to the nanosensor, and a second receptor also suitable for binding the specific compound while the specific compound is bound to the first receptor. The second receptor is attached to an enzyme added to the solution. When the solution having the second receptor is added to the device, and a second compound that is a substrate for the enzyme is subsequently added to the solution, a measured difference in an electrical property in the device before and after the application of the second compound is indicative of the presence of the specific compound in the solution.

Nanoelectronic-enzyme linked immunosorbent assay system and method

The present invention provides a microfluidic purification chip for capturing a biomarker from a physiological solution. The present invention also provides a method of capturing and releasing a biomarker, wherein the biomarker is originally in a physiological solution. The present invention further provides a method of pre-purifying and measuring the concentration of a biomarker in a physiological solution.

Physiologic sample preparation for nanosensors

The present invention provides a regenerative nanosensor device for the detection of one or more analytes of interest. In certain embodiments, the device comprises a nanostructure having a reversible functionalized coating comprising a supramolecular assembly. Controllable and selective disruption of the assembly promotes desorption of at least part of the reversible functionalized coating thereby allowing for reuse of the regenerative device.

An electric field is applied causing a positive dielectrophoretic force to the analyte to capture the analyte. The Clausius-Mossotti factor of the analyte is changed by flushing the analyte with a reference solution, which causes a negative dielectrophoretic force to facilitate release of the analyte. A field effect nanowire or nanoribbon sensor detects the analyte after capture.

Electronic device for pathogen detection

The systems and methods described herein include a sensor for suitable for sensing chemical and biological substances. The sensor comprises a semiconductor layer formed in or on a substrate and a channel having nano-scale dimensions formed in the semiconductor layer, where the structure creates an electrically conducting pathway between a first contact and a second contact on the semiconductor layer. In certain preferred embodiments, the nano-scale channel has a trapezoidal cross-section with an effective width and exposed lateral faces, where the effective width is selected to have same order of magnitude as a Debye length (L) of the semiconductor material of which the semiconductor layer is formed.

CMOS-compatible silicon nano-wire sensors with biochemical and cellular interfaces

A system and method for trapping a charged particle is disclosed. A time-varying periodic multipole electric potential is generated in a trapping volume. A charged particle under the influence of the multipole electric field is confined to the trapping volume. A three electrode configuration giving rise to a 3D Paul trap and a four planar electrode configuration giving rise to a 2D Paul trap are disclosed.

The present invention relates to protein chips useful for the large-scale study of protein function where the chip contains densely packed reaction wells. The invention also relates to methods of using protein chips to assay simultaneously the presence, amount, and/or function of proteins present in a protein sample or on one protein chip, or to assay the presence, relative specificity, and binding affinity of each probe in a mixture of probes for each of the proteins on the chip. The invention also relates to methods of using the protein chips for high density and small volume chemical reactions. Also, the invention relates to polymers useful as protein chip substrates and methods of making protein chips. The invention further relates to compounds useful for the derivatization of protein chip substrates.

Protein chips for high throughput screening of protein activity

A spear gun sight assembly includes a rear sight with a first plate having a generally perpendicular bend therein such that a vertically orientated lower portion and a horizontally orientated upper portion are defined. A peep sight is attached to and extends upwardly from a top side of the upper portion. The peep sight has a peephole extending therethrough. A first coupler is adapted for releasably securing the rear sight to a spear gun. A front sight includes a second plate that has an inner side and an outer side. A loop is attached to the second plate so that the loop extends away from the inner side. A sight pin is attached to the second plate and extends into the loop. A second coupler is adapted for releasably securing the front sight to the spear gun so that the peephole is aligned with the sight pin.
